This "Female Portrait" from the second half of the 19th century arrived in my studio as a work by an unknown artist. But during the restoration process, beneath layers of darkened varnish, the artist's signature and date were revealed: A. Sedov, 1883! 🖋️ It's incredible luck to restore the name of a forgotten master after decades.

To restore the painting to life, a painstaking and careful process was required:

• Healed the canvas wounds by gluing the tears and reinforcing the weakened edges;

• Reinforced the primer and fixed the crumbling paint layer;

• Cleaned the reverse side and removed the old, darkened varnish that distorted the artist's colors;

• Applying restoration primer to the damaged areas;

• I applied delicate tinting and a new protective layer of varnish to the portrait. 🛡️

When you see the girl's cleansed face looking back at you from the depths of time, and the name of its creator proudly glows at the bottom of the painting... you realize it was all worth it. ☺️
