Yes, the app is user unfriendly but it will show total kilometers when both batteries are connected together. You can also charge both batteries at the same time.
Don't rely on the Mahle app to record your journey it is useless, use Garmin and/or Strava systems for that. Garmin will also indicate how much battery is left.
