What a wild camping disaster. I never thought I'd bail on a wild camp. I've been camping in all sorts of conditions over the years and although it's come close I've never bailed.
My backpacking trip in Snowdonia / Eryri started off so good. Ascending the Glyders via Y Gribyn was awesome. Then summiting both Glyder Fawr and then Glyder Fach via Castell y Gwynt.
Then the weather changed for the worst. I knew it was breezey but the wind was far worse than forecast. It may it extremely difficult to pitch the tent. I moved to a better wild camping location only to be faced with swirling gusty winds.
Needless to say, the tent broke and I was forced to descend the mountain back to my car.
Lessons were learned. I personally don't blame the tent, it was the wrong tent for the conditions.

The tent used was Nortent's 3 season version of their Ly 1 with DAC NFL poles.
Please read my response below to a few questions I've had. It's important to associate failure with the wrong type of tent being used rather than the backpacking tent itself.
"On this occasion, it's dangerous to simply associate failure with a specific brand and model. It was a lighter weight, 3 season tunnel tent with ultralight tent poles, not designed or meant for use in those conditions.
If it had big claims, like many 3 season tents do, I would absolutely call it out. If it was labelled as a 4 season tent, again, I would call it out.
The fact is I unknowingly took a 3 season tent out in 4 season conditions. That responsibility must lay with me."
It must also be acknowledged the tent wasn't fully pitched when it broke. I've said numerous times before on this channel, tents are at their most vulnerable when pitching and dismantling.
