Since mid-2025, the German Army has replaced general basic training with basic training.
With this change, the largest branch of the German Armed Forces is responding to the current threat landscape.
In this video, we examine the differences, the specific challenges, and the impact this change has on the German Armed Forces' goal of achieving combat readiness by 2027.
We accompany a training company of Reconnaissance Battalion 7 in Ahlen, briefly discuss the mission of the unit commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Jörn Ove Kutscher, observe recruits firing their first live-fire G36 rifle, and ask targeted questions of company commanders and platoon leaders.

►►►► Too much advertising?
I understand. But advertising is what makes these videos possible in the first place. And it at least compensates me a little for the effort.
Still annoying? Then I recommend a YouTube Premium subscription. I have it too.
►►►► Why does it say ADVERTISEMENT sometimes?
This is due to a very unclear legal situation: the Interstate Broadcasting Treaty (RStV), which concerns the broadcasting rights of product recommendations, or even recommendations for my own channel. I simply don't want to risk a lawsuit.
