character name: Dale Shallow Water

aka the FERN build

I'd argue that having Alert (especially in Honor mode) is more important than having 20 int.  Especially if you're predominantly using Magic Missile.  Going first and taking out high priority targets before they can act reduces risk in a lot of fights.  It also gives you the ability to not be surprised.

The last thing I expected when clicking on a video about Magic Missile is not picking Magic Missile for a Spell, lol

For this type of build I like to go Drow so you can dual hand crossbows, there is one that can cast magic missle.

5:30 it's worth pointing out that potent cantrip only works for cantrips that have a SAVING THROW such as Toll the Dead, Bursting Sinew, Acid Splash, Poison Spray etc... Cantrips that use attack rolls such as Firebolt or Booming Blade are not affected by it.

Gotta give a shout out to Major Slack for doing the Magic Missile walkthrough.

PC: We have Gale at home

I've seen probably 100 billion Magic Missile builds, but I'll never get tired of it. Truly, the best spell. 💚

As someone with my first eve dnd character ended up spamming 77 fixed force damage per turn I always love magic missile build in both dnd and bg3.

If you're letting yourself use mods, an excellent subclass mod for a level 1 dip is the Arcanist Sorcerer. At level 1 it gets to launch 1 additional missile with every cast. So if you wanted to do a 2 level dip for Metamagic there's excellent additional theming and synergy.

I really appreciate the breakdown for the equipment. Awesome video, thanks!

So in short, as long as I have magic missile, the other spells don't really matter. And I could even take a class that gets an extra cantrip like high elf.

And basically get all the equipment that inflicts conditions when you cast a spell. And then you're a killer wizard. Beware of the magic missile

i caught that you didnt add in Magic Missile i just thought you were going to find some other way to add it in

Lol you're actually really charismatic and funny, especially considering how nerdy the content is :P great video!!

Fantasy, of be human.
Testing if we notice you not taking magic missile...

Love it, subscribed!

13:32 you can kill Meenlock easily with casting calm pre-emptively or during combat or brave/heroism/courage aura/daylight will help

The battle music had me thinking 'hurry ! revive Shadowheart before she turns into a crystal!'

That was fun to watch. Thanks.

A neat thing you can do if you're fond of lightly modded play, Amethyst Draconic Sorcerer would make for an even stronger alternative due to being able to relatively easily get up to 24 Charisma (tragically 26 is not possible due to the way stat increases are ordered), a lot of the staple Wizard spells for the build are also on Sorcerer's list, and it synergizes with the aforementioned Hexblade dip. All that on top of getting the big feature to boost damage 4 levels earlier, which is huge. Also more metamagic.

As for how I'd build this variant, I would start Sorcerer for proficiency in Constitution saves, then multiclass into Hexblade immediately for Medium Armor and Shields early game (24 total AC when casting Shield), with Safeguard Shield or Absolute's Warboard being notably good (the latter moreso if you get the Absolute's Brand). The armor I'd probably aim to get by end game would be the Armor of Agility due to it having the highest AC of any Medium Armor, as well as not imposing disadvantage on stealth and giving a +2 bonus to Saving Throws. Good alternatives include Elegant Studded Leather, Adamantine Scale Mail, possibly Bided Time, Robe of Supreme Defenses, and Helldusk Armor. Mutilated Carapace is an option for those who wish to sacrifice a bit of armor class for even more damage. If you're fine with losing some damage for the sake of more armor, Adamantine Shield is good if you're not using other adamantine gear, otherwise Sentinel Shield and Shield of Devotion are both very good options. The most important bit of equipment would be the Birthright, which boosts Charisma by 2. There's probably other things but midnight is not the time for that thorough of a deep dive.

Honorable mention goes to Scribes Wizard, which would've gone hard with BG3 scribing rules, especially with more levels to work with. Unfortunately the one mod I saw for it does not have the damage changing feature.

But yeah, I figure this could be a fun build for me to try out as a "Practice Solo Honor Mode" thing. Obviously not gonna take it nearly as seriously as that would make it sound. Anyway, it's too late at night to be continuing to write this out, so if anyone who happens to see this actually has any questions or comments, I'll probably respond eventually.
