For more than three decades, Taake has remained one of the most distinctive voices in Norwegian black metal.
This documentary traces the story from the early days of Thule through the formation of Taake, the original album trilogy, the evolution of the band's sound, the controversies that followed, and the music that has kept Taake relevant more than 30 years later.
A huge thank you to Hoest for taking the time to answer my questions, share his perspective on Taake's history and music, provide archival material, and allow me to use Taake's music throughout the documentary. His involvement gave me the opportunity to tell parts of this story in his own words and, more importantly, let the music speak for itself.
Special thanks to my friend Kjartan for allowing me to use his photography of Bergen throughout the film.

I will admit that when I first learned about Taake, the controversies did cause me to hold off on checking them out for a little while. But I dug a little deeper and found that things are not as black and white as headlines and "sketchy lists" make them to be. (You did a great job accounting for the nuances in your video). Once I started actually listening to the music, I found that Hoest is a musical genius and quickly tore my way through Taake's discography. Taake is a band that truly embodies so much of what makes black metal so special. Much respect.
