She graduated from the renowned Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw – a hotbed of AI talent, where, among others, Wojciech Zaręba, Jarosław Tworek, Filip Wolski (associated with OpenAI), and Henryk Michalewski (associated with Google DeepMind) had studied before her. Immediately after graduation, she landed a great job as a data analyst at a corporation. At the same time, however, she became increasingly fascinated by photography and machine learning, which she studied in courses with Andrew Ng and Andrej Karpathy. After a few years, these passions took over – she quit her corporate job, took a job as a data science intern at a software house, and began doctoral studies in computer vision at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. Her work focused on deep learning of multimodal text and image representations.

The risk paid off – today, she is one of the most interesting experimental artists. Her works are included in prestigious public collections, including: Her works have been exhibited in Karlsruhe, Linz, and Wrocław, and have also been presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Bitforms Gallery, Venus Over Manhattan, during Art Basel Miami Beach and Art Dubai Digital, and at Christie's and Sotheby's in New York. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including those in Berlin, Tokyo, and Hangzhou. In 2022, she was recognized in the Top 10 Women in AI by the Tech Foundation, and in 2025, she won the prestigious Lumen Prize, CIFRA Award, and an Onassis Foundation scholarship.

The guest of the 14th (28th) episode of "The Limits of AI" is Dr. Ivona Tau – a mathematician, AI engineer, and artist experimenting at the intersection of photography and new technologies. We discuss creation in mathematics, art, and engineering, the beauty and simplicity of mathematical proofs, the connections between Impressionism, Cubism, and the mechanics of light, the experiments of Duchamp, Picasso, and Malevich, the fundamental problems of AI engineering, and the alchemy of generative models, epistemic crises, and the paradoxical nature of photography.
