Girl really worked the words "rizz" and "verisimilitude" into the same video script, hats off to you Ginny

“Someone who wants to play Game of Thrones Season 1 may not want to play Game of Thrones Season 8.” I don’t think even the cast of Game of Thrones wanted to play Game of Thrones Season 8 😂

I'm imagining a swashbuckling campaign where there's always a conveniently-placed chandelier in every scenario. Magistrate hosting a ball? Chandelier. Wizard performing a ritual in a dank dungeon? Chandelier. Ambushed in the woods? A chandelier would look nice in those trees. Sailing the seven seas? You better believe that ship has a chandelier.

Mystery Player: We figured out who murdered the duchess!
Mystery DM: Oh really?
Mystery Player: It wasn’t easy, but we found all four clues you left.
Mystery DM: Oh good. I actually left a hundred clues.

It’s always so weird when something is explained so clearly, and you wonder how you’d never quite figured it out for yourself. This has given me a really great (and new) structure to think about what kind of adventure we’re on. Thank you so much!

1:08 had 10 genres to do but you made it twelve. That's what we like to call a classic Hercules move.

My current game's session 0 had everyone agree that we were basically aiming for "The Princess Bride" in terms of tone.

Flash forward to 100 sessions later (yes really), and we're very FIRMLY in Epic Fantasy territory with a healthy dash of Mythic Fantasy and War, and have had some incredible character moments, plot twists, story arcs, and payoffs. The tone kinda shifted over time as people got more invested in the world and characters, and that's definitely been for the better for everyone. There's no need for the tone to stay in the same place. If everyone at the table is happy to let it drift, then it's probably best to let it naturally flow into whatever it needs to be. It's been a fantastic game, 10/10.

Whatever genre you pick, houserules are not a substitute for explaining expectations.
-Banning 90% of character options won't turn your game into Sword & Sorcery.
-Giving extra spell slots won't turn your game into Epic Fantasy.
-Removing death saves won't turn your game into Horror.

Now, now, even many young people enjoy a good swashbuckling movie with Antonio Barnderas. It's not "The Mask of Zorro" of course. They're mostly thirsty for a certain animated, scythe-wielding wolf. But still, technically, they're fans of a swashbuckling movie with Antonio Banderas.

Cross the streams - I transported a character into the real world once. She was amazed by the magical caravan that took her hundreds of miles in just a few hours at unvelievable speed.

It was an Amtrak train.

It’s a solo campaign, I can do whatever silliness I want.

It's a well known fact that all games start super-serious, and rapidly devolve into Monty Python. 🤪

let us never forget that the reason the alchemy jug produces mayonnaise in 5e is because Mordenkainen went to earth and tried a bad gas station sandwich but decided that the mayo packets made it sort of edible

I ended up running a war campaign where the players had two characters in two different parties, one set of high level characters and one set of low level characters. The high level characters affected the war directly, dealing with the opposition and met with the heads of the kingdom. The low level characters had their campaign within the kingdom, that way the players got to see the small view point and larger world viewpoints of the actions of the war had, both on the characters and the homes they were defending. It was a lot of work, but it went well overall

26:04 one other thing about Blades that discourages Murder Hobo-ing is (at least in the scripted Duskvale setting) that ghosts are wildly prevalent and interact with the world. Not to mention the fact that there is a group that actively watches for new ghosts to pop up and their response time is FAST.

23:07 A major case in point, one of your "Swashbuckling" clip examples was "The Three Musketeers." The story is decidedly Swashbuckling, but the plot is political intrigue with a mystery. As players in that, you'd be trying to solve who is plotting to assassinate the King, while dealing with the political machinations that are trying to undo your order.

2:11 With a sword it's more likely to become a slash line, rather than a punch line.

Ginny's scripts have been top tier recently! Had a bit of a chuckle, thought deeply about a new way to play, 10/10. She's a stellar addition to the Great DM pantheon <3
