This wasn't Jess a couple Things, it was Jess A Lot of Things.

My Haitian mother walked blocks in the Miami heat to visit South Miami Senior High every day for weeks to ask if the magnet program had an opening for me. As a result, I went to USC for my undergrad and graduated with a Master’s in UM. My grandmother was illiterate until the day she died. I would never disrespect my mother’s efforts by not providing the best for my future children. In my opinion, I became more radically black experiencing corporate life versus missing it out in school going to PWIs. The world will never stop reminding me I’m black and that I need to stay two times better to get up the ladder.

Sorry to whatever I was watching 😅

People have used other people’s addresses to get their child in a better school district.  😏

I no longer sacrifice myself to prove I’m down for the cause. I am a woman of means & my child is a product of that.

We know it’s possible to send our kids to well resourced black or diverse schools right? I’m surprised at how little I’m hearing people point this out. Black is not equal to Poverty

Jessie I know you and your mom have had problems, but hearing your story on how she wanted you to go to a different better school, made me smile & almost tear up. That's something I feel a good mother would do, if they can. It gave me another perspective/view of your mom. We as humans are so layered. Thanks for the story!

That lady did a social experiment with her child! There’s no way I’d do that & if I tried my husband would be looking to get me examined in a psychiatric ward! As an educator, my kids education is top priority!

I grew up in NYC & my immigrant mom did her research & had me tested to make sure I was in the top schools/programs that were also predominantly Black & diverse in Queens & Brooklyn. That lady had choices & deliberately sent her daughter to a low performing school because she internalized the false association with Blackness. She didn't have to go to a private PWI to get a good education.

The way that I am using my last dollar to invest in my children’s education… I cannot fathom sacrificing their education in these periodically times!

Jessie, you were sooo gorgeous at the Caribbean music awards. Totally loved the look 🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾

If you dont want to give your wealth to your kids then you shouldn't be having kids...also if you look forward to kicking them out as soon as they turn 18...because what is that?? Smh

Subject of video starts @39:35 ...

She surprised at the way black people are critiquing her decision but you DO NOT play with your child’s education like some type of experiment. The school you go to will affect the rest of your life, the type of friends you make, etc.

My mom growing up went to poor performing schools. She ended up becoming a teacher and once she got into a high performing school district, she researched where the black children who attended (however few) lived and bought a house there. She later took in our cousins so they could attend the school as well.
Edit: I did however face racism at school and saw a lot of internalized racism and hatred within my black classmates since we were in the minority. But I think my mom did a great job of having us deeply involved in black community in my church and predominantly black neighborhood. I had black doctors and lawyers to look up to and all of my close friends were black. That’s what I think made a difference for me.

Education was so important to my grandmother. She never finished school but she urged all her kids to go to college and they did. She helped pay for me to go to private school until I got into a magnet high school and then I went to one of the best colleges in the country on a full scholarship. She passed away my freshmen year but she was so proud and even helped me move in.

I’ve had a lot of issues with my mother. I’m currently a member of the emancipation club lol, but I will say she did her big one when she found a way to move us from the North Philly projects to an area with the number one public school in Pennsylvania. I owe much of my success in my continued education and career to that transition. Children are already so vulnerable in this world, especially black and brown children. Parents should always do everything in their power to give their children their best shot. The world is hard enough and they will need all the leg-ups they can get.

Lmao please ask Mr. Easter when sharks grew legs 😂😂😂

If she wanted her child to be in a specific educational environment then she should have been more involved. Leaving your child’s education to a system you know is broken when you are capable of providing them with better options is irresponsible

The problem is with this idea that being poor and disadvantaged  is somehow more ‘real’ and ‘authentic’ — which is an incredibly dangerous and self defeating mentality.  As for the car story… if you see the video he accelerates into the water, which doesn’t really make sense for someone who is a car expert, certainly makes you think as you say - that something was going on in inside that car.
