In this video I leave the chaos of Dhaka behind, and take on one of Bangladesh's famous overnight ferries to Barishal to find out what a $10 cabin is really like.

The journey begins at Sadarghat Port, where I buy my ticket before returning later that evening to board the ferry. With everything from floor space to VIP cabins available, I choose the standard single cabin for what I hope will be the most authentic experience.

From the organised chaos of boarding to a full tour of the ferry, I explore every corner of the boat, including the café, kitchen, tuck shop and sleeping areas, while chatting with locals making the same journey. I then settle into my tiny (and slightly dirty!) cabin for the night before waking up in Barishal the following morning.

After arriving, I grab a traditional local breakfast before making my way to the bus station to continue the adventure across Bangladesh.

When the boy hugged Hugh after receiving the chocolate made me emotional. He’s trying to act an adult by working as cabin boy then suddenly turned into a kid because of the chocolate. Bless him, he’s so adorable.

As everyone is praising the cabin boy, I would also like to commend Hugh. Being in a completely unknown place with minimal knowledge of the language, yet still managing to communicate effectively, is truly impressive. Hats off to both of them. Their communication skills are on another level.

Those chocolates maybe normal for many kids . But priceless for those who works at that age and hardly receive any gifts. The smile and hug reflect that ❤

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Shaquille/Shakil, who led you to the ferry and participated in banter with you. He really went out of his way and was very pleasant. It’s important to reward people like that. I’m sure 200 BDT would have made him very happy.

So many videos about the scams and rip-offs when you travel Asia, this is so refreshing. The two young guys (Shakil, who arranged the ticket, and the young cabin boy) were two of the nicest people I've ever seen on any travel vlog. I hope they make a good living in tips.
