In this video, I travel deep into Bandarban, one of the most restricted regions of Bangladesh.

Foreigners can’t simply travel around this area alone, so for the entire journey I had to be accompanied by both a guide and a local guide.

The day starts at a local market, where members of different indigenous communities are selling produce you rarely see elsewhere in Bangladesh, including pork, stingray, dried fish and many other foods that most Bangladeshis would never normally eat.

From there, I take a small boat up the river to a Marma village, where I explore the surroundings and get a glimpse into everyday life in this remote part of the country.

Afterwards, we stop at a local restaurant for lunch and try some traditional dishes, including bamboo chicken and dried fish, before jumping in a rickshaw and travelling to another village.

There, I spend some time learning more about village life, meeting the locals and seeing how people live in one of the least-visited parts of Bangladesh.

To finish the day, I buy some gifts for the people in the village as a small thank you for welcoming me.
