Fun fact: the first quest in the video was a halloween event people loved, so they made it into a quest later

The game also loves leaving Easter eggs. For example in the cook's assistant quest you can collect the asked for items before starting the quest, and he'll comment on just how awfully convenient it was you just so happened to have some milk, eggs and flour. There's 1 or 2 other beginner quests that do this too and the game devs love putting in quirky interactions like this in

At first i thought Jo was indicating liking warframe was tied to being a woman

I was not expecting this but im so happy you're trying runescape

Probably worth noting that Cook's Assistant has been in the game more or less unchanged since 2001, back when the recipe for cake wasn't a google away yet.

I always loved runescape questing way back when, if I ever go for osrs I'm getting right back on that horse. Everyone gives One Small Favor grief, but she is literally that girl, no-one else did it like her and no-one else ever will again

Runescape has the best quests of any MMO hands down. What he saw is just the beginning, and I would love to see a series of JoCat trying out the bigger questlines like the Elf or Vampyre questlines.

Ides of Milk is a perfect quest for new players because the quest version of Brutus literally does pull his punches (you cant die in the fight) but most new players wouldn't pick up on that because of how combat works.

'i was just killing frogs' ... He doesn't know what evil he has angered deaded be the hells he has yet to know

The cake quest I think shows one of RuneScape's strong points... Like to make a cake there are so many steps, it's extremely granular and highlights RuneScape's design philosophy really well

Was super excited to see this in my recommendations, and I hope to see more!

The only thing I could remotely point out is that it's a misconception that OSRS is a game for kids. There's very little in the way of such humor like in the ides of milk, and while there are definitely things like the stronghold of security, a good portion of the game definitely goes into more serious territory too. It's very much an actually all ages game rather than "it's good for kids so we're calling it all ages."

The coolest thing i feel about about this game is that (excluding Misthalin Mysteries and Ides of Milk) each on the F2P quests are just the prologues to the vastly grand and ever expanding storylines you run down as a Member. Even the penultimate F2P quest Dragon Slayer has a part 2 down the line with the Dragons Story and even a whole new game in Dragonwilds. Or one as unassuming as Vampire Slayer being the first taste of Morytania and the Myreque stuff.

Its a trick question, Count Draynor and Count check both live in southern misthalin.

Cook's Assistant, today, The Blood Moon Rises, tomorrow.

Get that QPC, Jo.

My two main MMOs are OSRS and FFXIV, and they fit together perfectly for me. Last year I grinded on OSRS and chatted ingame while studying, then hopped on FFXIV after. Got 99 prayer and a 4.2 GPA. Fun stuff

Here's hoping Jocat keeps going so he can see quests like Scrambled!, A Ribbiting Tale of Lilypad Labor Dispute, and all the GM quests.

This is such a fun thing to see. I've been a RS/OSRS player for 15 years, your videos helped me get into and understand FFXIV when I was trying that out, and I frequently play both at the same time. I would highly recommend continuing to play. The tickrate eventually feels pretty natural, as mechanics are designed around it and the game starts to feel like a rhythm game at the high end. It's also so satisfying to just set your character to chop trees or mine shooting stars and leave it there for 10 mins at a time. No other game has such a wide spread of low to high intensity modes of play.

God this takes me back. The quest design for Runescape was ultimately the thing that I enjoyed the most.

1:13 the canon event for every RuneScape player humming the music

Happy to see you giving Runescape a nice lil' try. Good luck, I'll be happily watching, as you're one of my favorite creators.
