Tracing has been a 'spicy' topic amongst artists for years! My mother, who couldn't draw to save her life, was a phenomenal wildlife painter! She traced and projected, but it was her ability to see shapes and colours that resulted in beautiful art! Thanks for this video! Enjoyed watching!

I’ve always thought of using the projector as like being a baker using a cookie cutter. You use the cookie cutter just for the shape it’s the ingredients, flavor and final decoration that matters I don’t think bakers cheat by using cookie cutters and I don’t think artists cheat if they use something to assist with an outline. Especially if it’s large scale.

Thank you!  If Michelangelo could project we can too!   I use it for basic form and perspective. The rest I do by eye!

I love how this is turning out - so bright and beautiful!

I love the idea of tracing, but I also like to sketch, so I now do both and I find that my sketching has improved

I used to work at a large art supply store, where we sold a lot of projectors. It's funny that every customer has to tell you that they're buying the projector for a friend.

I appreciate this so much.  I am a beginner painter - and my painting vastly improved when I gave myself permission to trace the basic outline!!

You impress me every time 👏👏👏 so cool.

I proved to myself years ago I could draw well, but my passion is painting! At almost 64  I use all sorts of ways to get me to painting as quickly as possible. If you enjoy drawing by all means draw , but if you enjoy painting more than you do drawing your design out by hand before you start .. how ever gets you to what you love , pushing that paint around is my passion! 🥰 I don’t judge how people choose to create . You do you boo! And let others create how they want too!
If that’s photographing your subjects , life drawing , digital sketching , using rulers , tracing paper, projecting, compass , sublimation on canvas  or even dare I say AI , just create! Have fun and let others do the same! ❤

This was SO MUCH FUN to watch!  Thanks for sharing!

I usually draw first - which requires a lot a fudging, correcting, and redrawing. Then I size the drawing and trace it onto the canvas or paper. However you do it, your subsequent interpretation is the important thing.

At a young age I decided to draw the lady on back of magazine selling Breck shampoo. It turned out good and some one said” you traced it.” I said no I didn’t. So then I started drawing image bigger so they did not think I traced it. 😂

That was the best example of painting people in acrylics that I've ever seen

Your bold brushstrokes are so masterful!

Excellent!!!  This is a wonderful demo!  Thank you for showing how to paint such a fun beach scene!  You do such amazing work and teaching!

You are phenominal with your brushstrokes and your colors. That is coming out amazing.

I’ve started using a compass, ruler, painter’s tape, and an exact knife to do my art. I, for some reason, used to always think that one had to free-hand EVERYTHING. But allowing myself to use different tools to get things done, it has opened up for me why is possible. It has made my work cleaner, more direct, better looking. My creativity still shines through. It’s been pretty great, actually.

Thank you Julia, I love watching you paint (it’s my procrastination time😂) but I always learn something new and gain a new perspective on my art.

Wow I asked myself that same question yesterday ❤❤❤

This is amazing and inspiring. You make such bold confident strokes! ❤
