Thank you for sharing your setback, so often we are bombarded with everyone's successes that when we fail, we feel as though we are the outlier the dumb one or whatever. When in reality we all have setbacks, and those setbacks can actually be useful to make us stronger and more resilient. By the way I passed the defense of my MA in history first time.

9:25 I’m surprised that stuff like that isnt picked up by your supervisor…that they dont warn you that you might face a problem with such a small sample.

been following your journey since I was in 6th form, I've graduated my Bsc now and onto do my Masters hopefully in Clinical, thank you for being an inspiration

The fact that you are able to recap the process with no negativity is mind blowing and shows either that you are a very positive person or that this medium of YouTube vlogs is simply another mechanism against the truth in the name of commercialism. I did enjoy the video and I hope I can adopt a more positive outlook to my life.

Congratulations, Francis, well deserved.  I’m sure you’ll have a lot to give to Clinical Psychology in the future

I’m so delighted you passed your thesis. Hooray! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💯💖

I'm not normally the one to comment but I felt compelled to say I really appreciate you sharing the ups and downs of your journey. Through watching vlogs like yours I have realised after much reflection that pursuing DClin is not for me and without having this non-romanticised insight into what it's actually like I probably would spend a lot more time until getting to that conclusion... many congrats!

I find your work fascinating and really feel for you! From experience I know it feels crap to get pushed back academically but you’ve done it! Be proud of yourself 🎉

Well done sharing how hard this hit you. Academic work has some harsh setbacks for sure.

Well done on this. This video will help demystify what to expect at a viva for many on one level. Also you kept going. Gathering new data must have been a pain. Someone I knew (Zoology) had 1 year to reanalyse their data with a new theory, as the one their supervisor had was not useful.
I loved the level of detail you had in here e.g. for the 't-test'. I want to go back over that now.
You are a very authentic person.

I had a resubmission like you and I remember being quite angry due to how blasé the examiner was about the changes. To him it was for me to reanalyse my data using some different methods which he thought might show something different. To me it meant not having a holiday for a year and working late evenings after a full day with a job after an hour commute. It was really tough and I wouldn’t have been able to do it if I had any other commitments like kids or caring for an elderly relative. I personally think the universities should provide funding if you get this option for resubmission as it really isn’t fair and inclusive.

well done Dr 👏🏾 i feel like a proud mama 😂 thanks for taking us along your journey ❤

Congrats and kudos to you for hanging in there!

It would be interesting to know about your supervision. Clearly the biggest risk in the research design was difficulty in recruiting participants with the required profile. Did the supervisors or other involved staff not point this out to you? Or did you ignore their advice in year 1? Congratulations on your PhD :-)

Ah Francis - that is so tough - well done for pushing through! Congratulations for passing and defo agree - getting the email is so weird and a definite anti-climax!

Thank you for sharing! I remember receiving the email saying I’d passed and qualified as a clinical scientist, I was so relieved and after the insane stress I went through getting there it almost didn’t feel real! I’m glad you are there, enjoy it

I recall it was Rocky who said something like “… it’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.” Good luck mate, you’ll do alright whatever you decide. Every one I know who got PhD/MSc had to struggle, and if you didn’t, it probably wasn’t worth doing or you cheated your way!

Hi, psych student from Indonesia here! Huge congrats on finishing your DClinPsych journey! I just finished my master’s a month ago, and this video resonates with me so much. I already miss the whole thesis era. It was already stressful for me, so I can only imagine how intense a dissertation must be. But looking back, it really is such a special phase of life. By the way, I got a lot of motivation in finishing my study by watching your videos. Hoping someday I can make it to oxford for my DPhil and having my viva too. Thank you so much for sharing!

I felt the same anticlimax with the surreal email saying "you've passed"!
