They say GCC usually go through something called “the terrible 2’s” where they tend to be nippy for a year or so and then they start to grow out of it. He’s close to 2yrs so maybe he’s going through that?
Some tips: don’t use fruit blend pellets, although it is better than seeds regular pellets are better. For the cage: I would recommend getting a little stand for it because birds feel safer when they are higher, and the cage is just on the ground. Take out the mirror because when they look in it it might make them hormonal and they will start biting. Take out the fuzzy hut because the birds will tend to eat them and they will get stuck in their intestines and they can die. Make sure to put the cuttlebone in the cage. And only give those treats to him when training!
i am so late but it looks like you tamed him fast ! i wanted to know, how long did it take you to actually pet him? i was thinking of getting one of these birds, they look so friendly.
Hey so I could tell that he is good aggressive and to help prevent that is to hand feed him and if he bites show no reaction because like you said they need a lot of attention I’m not an expert but I hope you will take my advice from experience he is adorable
Probably best not to give him so many processed treats. Give him a small bowl of cut up fruit and veg. He’ll love you for it. My birds absolutely love cucumbers.
Congradulations. Ollie is so cute! Cuddling already? GREAT! It sounds like you really know what you're doing. I have a GCC named Milton. I rescued him a year ago. He lives in my bird room with 2 parakeets, but of course I'm his person and he bites everyone else. Please let me know how socializing him goes. For now, I just keep him caged around family members. Congratulations again. ENJOY!
Parrots are very fragile and most birds show their illness at a very late stage!! Make sure to clean him + his cage and give him a healthy diet everyday! Violence would only lead to worsened relationships. During some time periods, parrots tend to have behaviour changes so if your bird is doing something weird, don’t panic! Don’t neglect or trap the bird in its cage since birds also have the same feelings as humans (meaning they could easily become depressed and will start biting itself and/or you & your family. Research is always best, take care. :))
probably by now you already know when he screams and when they are talking or repeating previously learned words. they are loud. but yeah i wonder what he was saying? good luck:)
