Some People Actually Get ANGRY When A Train Moves Like THIS?!

Watch this local freight train slowly pass this crossing with only one locomotive for power as the train slows down even more and almost stops! The train was already going slow because this track is a branch line, but I have no idea why the train almost stopped. I've seen and heard people go insane with this exact kind of situation, likely thinking the train would stop and never clear the crossing. One person literally shouted and panicked right next to me filming the train (and I had to trash the video because of it...). It's also surprising how this crossing got new gated cantilevers, with the fact that this track only sees one train going back and forth (and the previous signals were installed in early 2020s...).

As a former freight engineer I have an educated guess as to why the train was being operated the way it was. The line is probably unsignaled, and operating on rules for that type of line, which means operating at "Restricted Speed". The most important part of that rule is "able to stop within half the range of vision". Meaning that if you can only see 100 ft into a curve, the engineer has to be able to stop the train within 50 feet to avoid hitting anything around the curve, like an obstruction, broken rail, misaligned switch, etc. If the train has to go 1 mph to follow the rule, that is how fast they have to go, until the engineer gets better sight down the line.

It's interesting how people "lose their cool" easily instead of just a few minutes waiting 😢 Jenny

3:55 Old Wisconsin Central hopper! Here in Wisconsin most of our diesel trains are also Canadian National like the one in this video. The CN purchased Wisconsin Central decades ago if I’m not mistaken.

In SE Portland, Oregon, trains will block several crossings in a row for an hour or more. There is a bridge with two elevators but half the time it is broke.

I'm in the UK. The local railway crossing in the mighty metropolis of Aspley Guise ( yes really ) often stops me on a dog walk. We wait about 5 mins until a train about the size of a school bus passes through at about 2mph.....

”Why are you late again today, Hector?”
”Headmaster, the train …”
”The train, the train, does the sun ever rise an hour late and say ’the train’”?

That's why Americans are so proud of their endless cargo trains.

No question, it's due to a new rule adopted this year.

434.6(b). When proceeding through a grade crossing, the engineer shall operate the train so as to cause the maximum amount of aggravation to automobile drivers without actually stopping the train.

434.6 (c) Double points shall be awarded to the engineer if any drivers race to another grade crossing only to find that the train has blocked that one too."

24 tank cars with only two of them with a small bit of graffiti and three covered hoppers with only one small graffiti on one of them. Amazing! Unfortunately, the rest of the cars had lots of graffiti on them. 🇨🇦

I hope that multi storied building in the background is not an apartment building. Imagine putting up with that obnoxious nonstop clanging every time a train goes through the entire length of time it takes to pass.
