The lecture was given as part of the "Troitsky Variant - Science" newspaper's anniversary celebration at the Engaging Science Festival on April 25, 2015.

In the history of Russian and ancient Russian architecture, the period before the Mongol invasion stands apart. Why? Because the invasion and subsequent subjugation of the ancient Russian principalities halted monumental stone construction in Rus' for more than 70 years—even in Novgorod and Pskov, which the Horde troops never reached. Unique schools of architecture ceased to exist, and in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, everything had to be started anew. This makes it all the more important to study and preserve the few remaining architectural monuments of the 10th-13th centuries in three countries—Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Science journalist and photographer Alexey Paevsky, who has been researching this topic for many years, gave the audience a brief tour of approximately 50 surviving monuments of ancient Russian pre-Mongol architecture.

Lecturer: Alexey Paevsky, science journalist and editor-in-chief of the journal "For Science."
