Agreed. The writers don't know what to do with Nefarious. He's meant to be an evil mastermind, subverted with occassional silly moments and his dynamic with Lawrence. Now it's all silly moments, and Lawrence is inexplicably gone. The ending to All 4 One was never followed-up on. Dr and Emperor Nefarious could have been an amazing team-up as they could contrast eachothers' strengths and weaknesses. There could have even been a plot twist of Emperor Nefarious being easily defeated, only for Dr Nefarious to be the big bad. A lot of wasted potential.

I agree. Emperor Nefarious not losing while Dr. Nefarious losing constantly should have been nailed better within the plot. It would have been interesting if Emperor Nefarious was the lucky idiot with the idiotic plans that just, somehow, worked out while Nefarious was the intelligent and cunning mastermind that always loses due to being the most unluckiest bot.
Also, Rift Apart not letting Dr. Nefarious go completely insane, fed up with his mistreatment, was an absolute sin. That game could have given him his first win against a version of himself that would always win due to luck.

As Emperor is being torn apart, the tremors from the dimensions merging causes Ratchet to lose his grip on the Dimensionator as it lands next to Nefarious who picks it up and looks at it quizzically.
Emperor:"QUICKLY, YOU DOULT! USE IT TO FIX ME SO I CAN- I mean... WE CAN STILL WIN!!"
Nefarious:"....... You know... all my life I've done nothing but lose. No matter what I do somehow always lose. But you... you always win. So answer me this..."
Nefarious inputs some random code into the Dimensionator, twirls the conformation handle, and points it at Emperor.
"What's it feel like to lose?"
Nefarious pulls the trigger and blasts a rift into Emperor's chest. As the dictator begins folding in on himself he lets out one final scream then freezes up as an episode of Lance and Janice plays before he explodes.
"It's stinks, doesn't it?"
Nefarious tosses the Dimensionator to Ratchet.
"Now fix this mess so I can go home and plot your demise or something. Next we meet I'll win fair and square!"

“Thugs-4-Less are known for their incompetence!”

>Constantly kicked my ass in Renegade Legend in Rift Apart.

Cries in a corner.

I agree with this video. Doctor Nefarious has been done pretty dirty in recent years. In Rift Apart, he doesn't even have Lawrence by his side, and he doesn't have moments where his head freezes and tunes in to Lance and Janice.

I think the writers are afraid to do really big changes to de franchise, this can be a reflection to Ratchet's constant insecurities in Rift Apart.
I mean, they kind of did a redemption arc to Quark for the first trillogy. Besides Ratchet and Clank had to constantly work with mercenaries and illegal bendors, Nefarious ending up working on the illegal market of weapon modifications wouldn't be to big of a stretch

Your idea for rewriting Emperor in Rift apart is something I was sure they would do. Nefarious in one scene tells the Emperor sucess is meaningless when you actualy achive it and I tought that showed that Nefarius has grown but like he still goes along with the Emperor even tho he just said it is meaningless. If they ran with the idea of him looking at whatever Emeperor is doing  and seeing how petty Emperor and by extent he is that would provide not a redemption ark but just regaining his self awarness. Hell even make him realise he is having less fun being evil without Lawrence. A true natrual

Somebody get Insomniac Games a rag because the tea has been spilled again. Great video as always ❤

This Video really opened my eyes to not just about Nefarious but also the Issues of him in Rifts Apart, you really made a lot of sense.

Here's my idea to improve the writing in Rift Apart :
Clank is UNcapable of repairing the dimensionator, he needed some help...But he couldn't ask for Ratchet's help because of 3 reasons (1-He would say "No" 2-Despite being a lombax,he doesn't fully understand how this thing even works and 3-That would've spoil the surprise)
So Clank had no choice but to ask for the most advanced mind in 3 galaxies (?) to aid him......and it had to be the most "NEFARIOUS" one (haha not funny nor clever)
This change would've explain on how Nefarious knew about the Dimensionator and why is it Clank's fault !
This alone would've made it more impactful !

My headcannon is after the events in a crack in time he had some serious brain damage. Plus even his colors changed from a menacing red to a dark orange afterwards.

It would be interesting to see your thoughts on Life of Pie.

I'm liking the analysis so far, but I just paused at the 8 minute mark to point out that in his personal diary (where he reveals his intentions to double cross Vorselon and the Valkeries) he also makes a note to re-establish his vendetta against organic lifeforms.

So I don't think he'll go so far back so as to prevent the accident in the first place. And given he laughed at the idea of doing this whole thing for vengeance, I also don't think he was going back to defeat Qwark right out of the way early.

He's in too deep now, he needs to put robots in the top once and for all.

I have to admit, while the Ratchet and Clank movie had some flaws, Doctor Nefarious was awesome in the movie, even if he looked like a discount Megamind.

I agree with EVERYTHING here oh my gosh, I love Nefarious, literally A crack in time was the first game I played to completion! I cannot believe the weakness that Nefarious had in Rift apart, it made me want to play as him again just to fix him!! If we ever get more content of Dr. Nefarious in Ratchet and Clank media, I really hope they’ve listened to you, because it is your point that the developers need to hear.

Dr Nefarious is the series best villain but they absolutely overused him. Having him be reoccurring is good but not every single game. It's exhausting. I used to love that Insomniac's Spyro and Ratchet games always had a new villain in every game. It kept things fresh. I was playing Rift Apart and confused why Lawrence was just gone for no reason when he was part of the reason Nefarious was so good and funny

The virgin emperor:  is murdered by Furry mary sue

THE CHAD EMPEROR: is murdered by his own son and Transcend into godhood, creating a whole religion.

Well to be fair
He was supposed to be dead after a crack in time but Sony wanted him so it was retcon for all for one that he actually survived

i was really hoping to find a character analysis video on them and so glad this video existed, very great
