⛈️THE NEW PAUPER RUBY STORM⛈️ Burning Curiosity + First Day of Class | Magic: The Gathering MTG

Bryant Cook plays Pauper Ruby Storm in a Pauper League on Magic: The Gathering Online! These matches were played on: 01/21/26

///// DECK DESCRIPTION /////
Pauper Ruby Storm is improved with the addition of Burning Curiosity from Lorwyn Eclipsed. This new "impulse" draw effect gives the deck the critical mass of card advantage it needs to chain rituals like Rite of Flame and Seething Song into a game-winning storm turn.

This video features a donation deck from Wesley—thanks for the support! I’m showcasing my personal recommendation for the archetype, which moves away from Guttersnipe and toward Seize the Storm. By using First Day of Class, we can give our massive Elementals Haste and Trample, while the Learn ability lets us grab utility Lessons like Abandon Attachments or How to Start a Riot mid-combo.

We also dive into the "Land Grant" debate, explaining why thinning the deck is crucial for our impulse effects and how it fuels the power and toughness of our Elementals. This build raises the floor of the deck significantly; even if you fizzle, you’re often left with a board of creatures that can close out the game in short order.

Thanks for watching! Like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoy Pauper combo gameplay — and as always... Keep Storming!

Thanks for playing the deck I submitted! Glad to see Fractal Summoning made it into the sideboard. Hope Ruby Storm continues to grow and show good numbers.

I've really enjoyed the evolution of this deck over time. In the beginning I prefered the discard version. Back when it was playing only basics, and using sprouting vines to generate discard fodder. Then seize opportunity got printed and the deck shifted to exile based. Then back to discard with the printing of the flashback spells 5-8 in FF. The benefit of the exile version was always that you needed 1 less reducer, and your spells generated card advantage with less hoops to jump through. The discard version makes more mana, but is just a loss vs blue decks. Looking forward to trying this out in paper soon!

This deck is a ton of fun.

Most fun deck in pauper imho. Stoked for the new card.

I am going to have to try this one out! Love me some mono-ish red storm!

land grant letting you convert exiled cards to cards in hand for discard is pretty neat too

I like where storm is at now, this deck is actually interesting and interactive. I remember the days when pauper had no banned list and grapeshot storm was everywhere which was basically a goldfishing deck for both players.

I like this version way more than the one with 4 mana treasure spells, this one feels way more consistent imo, will try it out for sure!

Not sure what’s more stylish: the storm count or the winter outfits. ❤

I’ve been more partial to Spirit Summoning in the creature-tutor spot. I always found saving / making the double non-red mana very demanding. How to Start a Riot is my favorite of the lessons… but is overkill in every situation I’ve grabbed it.

Looks sweet! I really like the take of not running rummage for pace of getting off the ground.

There were a couple games at the begining where you played too defensively with your fams imo and put yourself off 1-2 mana (which stopped you from chaining).
Firebending is mostly for Krark, but it's been good againt priest of titania and guttersnipe when you're on a slow draw.

I look forward to seeing if how to start a riot justifies itself over time, I'm sure it will occasionally be good but getting lethal with it seems like it would be quite rare and if it doesn’t sinch the win there would probably be a better option.

rather than casting land grant to put it into your yard off glimpse the impossible game 1 you can let the tokens etb and they will be first day of class buffed which enables beats and blocks as well as mana acceleration. glimpse puts the cards to gy at end of turn anyways

@Fedetoro 8 months ago

Made a 5-0 last week with a similar list. Same finisher, but no rite of flame and the new card for 3

I have recently played against a ruby storm deck that used seize the storm on game 1.

But it switched to guttersnipe in game 2

I got destroyed with me playing bg turbofog and not drawing enough removal
