On August 14, 2005, Helios Airways Flight 522 took off from Cyprus bound for Athens with 121 people on board.

A few minutes after takeoff, an alarm sounded in the cockpit.

The pilots searched for the source of the problem, but the plane continued to climb.

Gradually, something unseen happened on board.

Then, silence. No more radio response. No more sign from the crew.

And yet, the Boeing 737 continued its journey to Greece, guided by the autopilot.

Over Athens, the authorities feared the worst. Two F-16s were scrambled to intercept the aircraft.

What they discovered was chilling: a plane full of motionless passengers, an unresponsive cockpit… and, in the final moments, a man still standing.

This man was not the captain.

It wasn't the co-pilot either.

It was Andreas Prodromou, a flight attendant trained as a pilot, who dreamed of becoming a professional pilot.

As Helios Flight 522 became a veritable ghost plane, Andreas attempted the impossible: to reach the cockpit and take control of a doomed aircraft.

This video recounts one of the most disturbing air disasters in history: not just a technical error, but the silent struggle of a man who tried, until the very end, to save 121 lives.
