One thing/tip that’s been a huge game changer in keeping my collection looking cleaner is a small cordless handheld vacuum. I’ve had mine for about two weeks and I love how easy it makes cleaning my plant shelves. Highly recommend for any plant person.

I know this is not the point of the video, but your voice is so soothing lol, I love listening to your videos while I do my plant chores 😂

As far as honoring interior design, foliage looks great against white walls.

Adding mirrors to reflect light is so fun! The whole room is brighter 😊

Re the tin foil tip: I found those silver sheets meant for camping on Temu. As they're so cheap they probably won't stop a person freezing while camping outdoors in winter but they are tougher than foil and can be folded up easily and reused.

First off, I just want to say … THANK YOU. SO MUCH. For such a creative, & informative video. I’ve had plants for many years & have binged through MANY plant videos & although there are some really good informative videos out there, they do tend to get abit repetitive. However, THIS video is the FIRST video I can actually say, has taught me ALOT & given me some really cool ideas to try. I literally had my notebook & pen out for this one! I couldn’t stop saying outloud “ omg this woman is a genius, why haven’t I thought or seen this before” so again, thank you for creating such a good informational video & sharing some creative ideas that the rest of the plant growing community might’ve not stumbled upon yet! Please make more of these <3

I'm still a fan of drilling a dime or nickle sized hole in my glass containers about 3/4 of the way to the bottom, so that I can occasionally give them a rinse & drain, and the extra aeration is always good.

A tip regarding the foil. Don’t make it very obvious from outside the window. It CAN make it look like you’re growing something illegal!! 😂

Hydrogen peroxide is H2O2, yes, but it is unstable. It breaks down very easily once exposed to any organic material. The mistake inexperienced individuals make is in assuming it breaks down ONLY into water and an extra oxygen molecule. This is not the case. In any other format, it is very destructive to organic material. So your idea of diluting is good. If someone does not dilute, just be aware, it will damage the plant, so what you are doing needs to be less damaging than the pest or problem you are addressing (snail eggs, rot, etc.)

I've been meaning to say that your advice about Hoyas that keep blooming but never grow was totally right - it was a few videos ago. You mentioned the plant could be blooming in order to procreate because of unhealthy roots. I have 2 plants that happened to and the roots were, indeed, not looking good ... even though nicely flowering. They are now growing after being chopped up to start again and it makes so much more sense. I'm feeling more confident about chopping others now if they don't look the way I like. Thanks for the advice!

For aeration, I just gently squeeze pots a bit or use a skewer to gently poke around & mix up the top couple inches of soil maybe once a month.

I’ve been covering pieces of cardboard in foil to keep behind and under my plants for years. Learned that years ago when I had a greenhouse. It helped the plants on the north side grow so much better! The smoother it is the better it reflects light.
Love clear storage bins for struggling and quarantined plants. No drainage has been the only way I can grow alocasia in room humidity. I’ve been testing out more and more plants. So far most of them like it and it helps me keep on top of watering. Even a few Hoyas I’ve tried have done well. I just let those dry a lot more than others. They look neat too since they are all shapes and sizes. It’s fun to thrift them too!
Thanks for sharing your journey.

Loving no-drainage glass vessels for some of my plants. Using LECA as the bottom layer. Alocasia and philodendron seem the happiest with it. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Okay, a thought on chopping back... plants in the wild are chewed on by bugs and animals AND are designed to bounce back.
Some plants are better at this than others (like grasses), but generally, some simulated "browsing" makes sense from an ecosystem viewpoint.

Claire, you can also use 1.5 parts hydrogen peroxide to 4 parts water and water a plant thoughly. I wouldn’t let it sit in the mixture but a quick flush will kill fungus gnats in your soil. It works great for heavy infestations. I bought a couple of plants a few years back at a Garden center and I thought all the fungus gnats just decided to come home with me! I would introduce Mycorrhizal fungi at the next watering to put back some of the good stuff back in your soil and worm castings. More tips!

You can use those pond type pots in a simple semi hydro type setup for anthuriums, just sit the net pot in a bucket, bit of water down the bottom, and a wick. Anthuriums REALLY need constant moisture and oxygen.
Iso is the BEST BEST BEST!!!! It also gets rid of aphids, mites, etc etc. I have not found any issue with burning in relation to iso - it evaporates so quickly...I would not put a plant like that in direct sun though.
And for even more effective treatment I use it inside a greenhouse or box, it stays and kills pests for days.

honestly, you could probably use sheets of disco tiles as a reflective background if you wanted to get fancy with it... Wouldn't reflect perfectly of course, but neither does tin foil I'm sure. Might be a cool thing to try out!
