Sigil II has just been officially added to DOOM + DOOM II so this timeline is no longer complete 🙃

Sigil II can easily be slotted between Sigil and DOOM II’s manual. Instead of returning to Earth, he first gets sent deeper into hell AGAIN as a last ditch effort from demon kind. Naturally, this fails, he kicks their asses, leaves and the story proceeds as normal.

@seandonntheg8433 makes a pretty good point regarding DOOM guys fate at the end of Knee-Deep in the Dead. I think he may have actually died and had to go through a scenario similar to what’s depicted in DOOM: The Dark Ages.

I never understood the whole idea behind doomguy surviving the end of e1m8, the intermission screen afterwards and the fact he ends up in what's revealed to be hell always very heavily implied to me that he died and went to hell

I like the idea of the Doomguy becoming the slayer, but I do miss the human against hell as opposed to a god squashing bugs

doom's new and old lore is super underrated

Thank you for clarifying things up. I recently learned of Legacy of Rust expansion, and I was willing to know why they put nukes in hell. Thanks to you, now I know.

No wonder the Doom Slayer was pissed at the beginning of DOOM (2016). By that point he'd had to clean up after at least 4 UAC experiments gone wrong.

I grew up with the original series and never knew it could get that dark and doom guy is the ray of hope. I wonder what the new timeline will tie in for us and what we might get after dark ages is out?

i'd argue that doomguy"s exit of hell in sigil 2 brought him to those ruins in mars. Where he closed the portal and then used a ship  on mars to go to earth.  After which doom 2 happens. And that the base of 64 is retaken after he stops the mother of all demons.  And that UAC creates another base atop of those old ruins they found. Which becomes the doom 3 base and that doom 3 happens while doomguy is in hell.
That the invasion on mars is contained and that the efforts of betruger lead to the UAC discovering the energy inside of hell.  Not being hell but argen't dnur.

From which they get the argent energy and then thus make the doom 2016 mars base.   With my theory added that the stygian abyss is one of those sub worlds just like Argen't Dnur.  
And likely the argenta are the ones behind these old buildings on  mars.   And that Mars had a second portal that the argenta likely used before that conencted portion of argent dnur fell to hell
