Camper Van Drains & Plumbing
In this video Zach talks about his least favorite part of a camper van build: plumbing. Specifically drain plumbing and grey water storage. He's (clearly) no expert but we get a lot of questions about this topic so we thought we'd give it a shot and hope that some of this information is helpful to other "plumbing-challenged" DIY builders.

If you're converting a Promaster van, our custom-molded grey water tank can make this less miserable for you!

My shower setup in my SWB T5 Transporter with a pop-top roof. I’m using a 70-litre Fiamma water tank located under the roll-on roll-off bed, paired with a 60-litre underslung waste tank that has a switched drain valve for easy emptying. For the shower, I’ve gone with an EverShower unit from Australia – perfect for containing water and steam inside the van. Hot water is supplied by a Kampa Geyser portable water heater, which works brilliantly for off-grid use. It’s a compact but very practical system that keeps everything tidy and functional inside the van.

Plumbing in a house is a pain, a van seems more of a pain! Nice video!

Thank you for another great video. I’ve developed the same affection for plumbing as you have. I really appreciate the information you have shared and the grey water tank you have created. (Best ever!)

Why does the vent have to go so high? Why not tap into the grey tank near the top so it can vent and also act as an overflow?

Thank you!

You guys should add an option to put the waste valve on the drivers side for those of us that have removed our exhaust. I'm tired of driving through the dump lane backwards lol

You have a good deal of information. I was hoping to see how to did the vent exiting the wall and making it seal tightly and if you added a screen for insects. Yours already had the horseshoe cover on it so I did not see. Do you have pictures of that? Thanks Much!!!

Great video, and it will be very helpful. Question: Instead of taking the vent pipe through the side of the van, could I safely use a stupor vent.

No "P-trap" under the sink drain going to the gray tank? What keeps IT from eventually stinking? My builder says this is the drain he uses - I'm worried....

Can you give the part info for that black plastic eyelid vent cover?

@carlosrios5162 3 years ago

One thing i want to know is how can i do that with the grey tank inside since its not winterproof if its outside.. I'm struggling because the shower drain will be higher than the grey water tank
