Today, the real SM Ningbo is inbound on the Columbia River toward Astoria, Oregon.
But one small gray container aboard carries a destination unlike any other:
SECRET — RELEASE ONLY AT ASTORIA
Its paperwork is vague. Its destination is suddenly changed. And a message arrives with no name attached:
“The wrong container is being watched.”
What begins as a shipping-record discrepancy becomes a private journey home for Evelyn Hale—an Astoria-born woman whose final wish was to return to the river she never forgot.
The Secret Container is a fictional maritime mystery inspired by real ships passing Astoria and beneath the Astoria–Megler Bridge.
Note: The SM Ningbo, its name, and the footage are real. This story is fictional. All characters, events, messages, and circumstances have been invented.
