Wales's industrial history transformed the world, but its deepest impact was left on the communities and landscapes across the valleys.

Massive amounts of land poisoned by lead from battery works and mercury from tanning. It has taken all of my 74 years to see any green plants growing on the hillsides overlooking Port Talbot. The reduction in the coal tips has also taken a lifetime from the Aberfan disaster. The UK government controversially used £150,000 from the public Aberfan Disaster Fund to pay for removing dangerous coal waste tips after the 1966 tragedy, even though the National Coal Board was entirely at fault. Now we just waste money on vanity projects .

Car battery's were made in Newport South Wales.  Llanwern steel Newport  over ten miles to drive from end to end. Alumium production and steel started 1912. Skin of the Spitfire came from Newport.
