I think Matt is correct on this whole issue. There is so much money in copyright laws and it's too risky. If I had a TV studio with a very large budget, I wouldn't risk it with AI music. I'd want the music rights to be bullet proof and the only true way to do that is with humans. Going cheap with music has a lot of consequences if that video takes off, it's happened to myself. The copyright laws can be brutal if you're not prepared for it. The more you own and the more authentic it is the better.

I too agree with what you said about the music libraries being the last safe bastion in this "battle" against AI, and I would basically parrot you word by word

I've been cautioning Suno users about the company's terms of service for a couple of years. People have argued "you don't know what you're talking about" -- even continuing to do so after I quote the relevant provisions of the agreement. Others believe they can rescue Suno generated content from being ineligible for copyright by hiring studio musicians and a vocalist re-recording the tracks -- it does not and can not. While no one owns copyright in AI generated music, Suno maintains a copy of all works it generates and the company's terms of service allow Suno to sue the user for damages arising from violation of the contract.

Some very pertinent cases were just decided and they decided that stealing actually is wrong, whaddya know! Look it up. It might make AI lovers sad but it'll make real musicians happy. Having their life's work being protected from theft would make anyone happy....well except for thieves. :)

So Matt,  is there a Suno like program you CAN recommend?   I write great lyrics that I can sing well,  and can play simple cords so I need something that allows me to keep all my rights but still sound like a professionally recorded band played this song

So my idea on this, it’s like you said, write your own lyrics and melody… if you’re gonna use AI to help with lyrics, use a different platform besides Suno… when you do use Suno, only get instrumental tracks… use a different platform for an AI vocalist..,
You can modify the Melody and chord progression enough to claim it as your own.
This way Suno has very minimal claim based on what it actually created versus what you modified to make it your own… and they should never have access to your lyrics, which is a big selling point of any song…

The free ride on Suno is over. They're now requiring a monthly subscription in order to download any of their music and now they have all of these legal agreements pop up when you download their music. It's getting suspicious. I think the company is gearing up for mass copyright claims after they win their first case. I think that's their plan. That's my gut feeling.

Sure. If you use Suno they will have a way to ask for a cut. If you use their generation they can claim they own the master. Another stream of revenue for them.

This is where that will change, the moment (and it will happen) the day a a.i. song wins a grammy and goes extremely viral like a "old town road" to where people can care less on how it was made, you know how many companies will change or make exceptions to get that, then when one door opens then the rest follows,

SUNO does not take you IP.
if you upload a track you give SUNO rights to use you're original upload for almost any purpose they see fit.
you still own your original and you also own any remix SUNO generate
However, this is why the Exclusive library won't touch an Ai composting.
By licensing SUNO rights, you original is no longer exclusive. it's a simple as that.
So if a TV station or Indi-film producer has no problems using a track that is non-exclusive, you're going to be fine.

NOTE:  I'm to. lawyer, I don't have to be because if you ever get into a a position of negotiating TV/Film licensing, you have to declare the licensing situation, it would be legally irresponsible and most likely financially crippling if later you were found out fraudulently deflected from the facts.

We’re an AI R&B group… however, we’re not just a “prompt-and-dump” project.

All our songs are FULLY produced AND written by a human (Benstar). Suno only provides the vocals.

Our point being: there needs to be a distinction between AI "prompt-and-dump" versus creative usage of AI (like us)

There's literally no difference between using suno and using standard software and creation tools there is Precidence where people use Auto accompaniment on tracks that Yamaha keyboards produce and loops are featured prominently everywhere choruses get generated all the time from fake choirs particularly if you go and look at Kendrick Lamar's hit one of his hits actually uses the take 6 vocals that are kurzweil instruments

I think you are wrong. Anything that is AI generated by law immediately falls into the public domain unless you contributed something to it. Example: I created the lyrics offline and submitted them to Suno. The law says that the lyrics are mine, not the Suno instrumentations. Hence, not even Suno can claim ownership over the output. As far as the lyrics they are bonded to you and Suno. So you can grab the public domain materials and make some adjustments here and there enough to copyrighted and you have an original song. How do I know this? An AI explained it to me. The irony

Questions: If you have original music (song-a) decent, upload it to Suno to do whatever .. but never use that AI version. The original is still your original human piece and can still be used for sync?? Also,: Suno isn't syncing your new music, it's non exclusive... So shouldn't you be able to send that music to be used  or sync'd by multiple libraries?? Isn't that kinda the same thing??  Thanks.

as time goes by AI is going to be seen as just another production tool and suno will be a thing of the past and strangling TOS will be gone with them

What needs to happen is folks branching away from a gate kept system as far as possible and create our own system. AI is going to oppress the powers that be anyway and it is a fact that they will fall. The new system will be ran by AI. It is inevitable. They trying to slow things down but that’s not going to happen. Their reign is coming to an abrupt end
