The middle ground between "Good" and "Goof" is "GOOBER"

Oath of the Garden Paladin + Path of the Death Knight
Friends and foes, to you all, I present...
The Aura Farmer

The Redemption Paladin's aura is actually the most menacing aura. He's standing there saying, "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed."

Paladins are the Incineroar of 5e, which basically means at their core they’re a support class with great offensive capabilities

Ngl I had a paladin that started an oath of devotion of a cult, found out the cult was evil, became an oathbreaker and became a paladin of love, but love for being alive and for helping people. This subclass would have been amazin for that

One thing I'll touch on for the 10 min mark. Generally speaking when paladins go through such lengths to let the party do things such as looking the other way or asking to be knocked out. It's not because of the paladins ideas but the dma vague idea of morality and subjective interpretation of oaths.

I love playing paladins. But not at many tables due to this. I have many a horror story but I think a short but on point one was: my paladin and the party were assisting in some war planning. Suggested a feint. Lure the enemy into a position so another team he would lead could flank them.

The DM said that any feints are like lies and dishonorable and that my god just yoinked my powers for a week.

Not for doing it... For mentioning it. Or with a different dm when I had held the line against a dozen orca so refugees could escape. The. The orc raid chief called me out. I didn't want to get into a one on one when I was already battered and bruised. But it was forced. And I got pushed back. An ally helped me up and my god slapped my wrists because I let a friend interfere with an honor duel. Like... A duel I didn't want and that honor duels were nowhere in my code or anything but because of his interpretation of it. Bam I get punished.

That shit is why.

Redemptions level 20 feature is interesting because yes it will turn off, but only against the enemies you actually negatively affected with your abilities. This means you can pretty much ignore the minions while you fight the boss, or alternatively you slaughter the minions while the boss is helpless to stop you.

You can pry my +5 Holy Avenger from my cold, dead, very old school hands.

55:00 There was a bit in the Stormlight Archive in the later books discussing how, when you swear a bad oath, you should just ...admit that it was bad, break it, apologize, and move the fuck on.  Don't be the guy who swore an oath to sit in a chair until you were told you could move and got stuck sitting there for ten entire years.  Be the guy who sat there for ten minutes, figures out that none of these assholes are gonna let them get up, and so they decide to get up and leave and also unfriend all those guys.

So, yeah, Oathbreaker should be a subclass for Paladins who have gone "you know what?  Not punching people is stupid" or "You know, being a bully is, like, bad actually," total agreement here.

I do like that you put Sabaton in every Paladin-themed video

55:40 Funny you should bring this up, one of my players is a conquest paladin who very much leans into the bullying side of things, but is now debating breaking his oath to become an oathbreaker. We were joking that in order to break the oath of conquest, he would just have to start being nice to people and stop being a douchebag for once, which would give him edgy necromancy powers for some reason

For years I have had this idea for a group of knights in a nation known for its farming and its main export, beer, who wore bronzed armor and called themselves the Barley Knights, with barley on their coat of arms and everything.

And you've made a paladin that literally fills that niche idea I've had.

I could kiss you.

59:59 I can't believe he did this whole video just to make an aura farmer joke

I can't wait for the Class Clownery video on Sorcerers...

One of my saddest moments was when the campaign where I had made this badass Crown Paladin ended after the first encounter.  She was great!  She was a "Single mom who loves her kids and never stops" who became city watch to give them stability, ended up in the financial investigations unit for the Royal Exchequer to help conquer the poverty that killed her husband and is the root cause of crime, is mentored into a Paladin Order.

Anyways, Crown Paladin is my favorite, for a number of reasons.

As a veteran player, I remember when this class was incredibly rare back in the Advanced D&D days. Your character usually didn’t survive three sessions, and paladins came loaded with steep requirements and a humans-only restriction. So you’d sit there hoping your next roll was good enough, all while knowing, let’s be honest, he was probably going to die anyway, especially when you had to avoid dishonorable tactics, tithe away wealth that doubled as your experience, and somehow not keep all the treasure and magic items.

I do like how BG3 tried to make the oath breaker not straight up evil, yet still sinister

When you redid the orc, I absolutely grabbed it and used it for an oath of redemption paladin build, where my character is trying to redeem the orc God. In our campaign, orcs earn their name, so when she turned green for believing in "heresy" she became Zhevnua the Disfigured, but when she discovered the name of the "good" orc God archetype he renamed her Zhevnua the Green Anvil, and I think oath of the garden might be a great subclass change to align with where the campaign is going! Super excited to use more Pointy Hat stuff as always!

The middle ground between Good and Goof is Geoff. Like Geoff from accounting who is just a normal guy.

Nontraditional paladin idea: a gnome with a scraggly yellow beard, oath if ancients, defender of the forest. "I am Loraxus, I SPEAK FOR THE TREES!"
