Personally I prefer cars where the key still goes in the ignition

I drive a 10 year old diesel golf. Runs like a dream. The problem will be when the government start charging radicalise levels of Road Tax. Then a perfectly good car will end up being scraped. Its all a Con

Still driving my 96 Camry Wagon LE.  Who knew 30 years later it would be a head turner lol.

My 94 year old mom has had 2 cars in the last 46 years.  Both Toyota Corollas.  Her 1994 is still going strong.

All very true. Look after your older cars, it's cheaper than monthly payments & better for the environment than manufacturing new cars every 3 years.

The problem is what do we do when/if they ban these cars as they plan to do? Individual action is not enough anymore. We need to act collectively against the tyranny.

I went to the garage because the headlight was out on my 2008 Lexus... I was told if it was the new version, it would be around £800.... but because mines was older, my bill came to .....£10 for a bulb. 😂

I've got a crap, medium old car too. Now I can feel smug about keeping it until the wheels fall off, rather than having to work hard to 'keep up with the Joneses'!

I have a 2013 Honda CRV. It never gives me problems, runs like a dream.

The next in demand professions will be welders and body specialists who can repair rusty cars.

They figured out how to make incandescent light bulbs that lasted for decades in the 1920s.  All the manufacturers got together and agreed to make 1,000 hours the benchmark.  They ALL stopped making light bulbs that lasted a long time for the plain reason of extracting a LOT more money from unsuspecting customers.

Nobody went to jail.  They should ALL have gone to jail.

I have a 2010 Honda Jazz and it is  just a reliable, A to B. Not the most comfortable I've had. Not a car that inflates my ego. Just a car, that when I turn the key, I already know it will start, will get me to where I am going, and back, and cost me a service,  MOT and a tyre or two. No more mini mortgages on cars for me ever again! My ego remains contained and I quietly smile to myself for finally  realising what my priorities are. 😊😎

We're genuinely at the point now where (Im in my 30s) my future grand kids are gonna sit in wonder as I tell them that I owned and drove my own car, and could jump in at any time and go anywhere I wanted.

I still drive a 1987 Volvo GL360. Never misses a beat starts and runs as new.

I'm 81 now but was a Bristol Aeroplane Ltd apprentice trained designer and with my love of engineering design, and all that stems from that, I've maintained my own cars throughout my life.  We run two old 1.6l C-Maxes; an '06 with 65k, and a newer '08 one with 75k and had them both 7 -8yrs.
The '06 is an INCREDIBLY sweet runner, mechanically, noticeably better to my ears, than the newer one which I let my wife drive to show my affection and appreciation for what she's done over the years.
I should also point out that I was born in Kirkaldy (so I look after the pennies) and my Dad and Granddad had a garage so I was brought up to 'make do and mend'! 🙂
Front wheel drive made home repair MUCH more difficult.  It was so much easier in the old days with rear wheel drive... easy to remove clutch, gearbox etc... you name it.
There is  NOTHING in a car made after the '90s that I need or want... all I need is maintainability, comfort, reliability, a heater, radio and windscreen washers... if you know what I mean.
All that said, I just wanted to say again how VERY much I enjoy your down to earth videos...
Key pup the good work...... love your stuff.

As a Honda fan, I can say that Old Hondas definitely rule and are the best, I personally feel 2000-2005 was the golden era for cars, which were built properly whilst being simple to drive and work on. New cars just don’t do ANYTHING for me, they are lifeless and boring. Old cars have personality and much more Fun to drive.

I spent 41 years working as a mechanic in a large government fleet department in the U.S. I started that job in 1983. Over the years I noticed that there was one vehicle that was far more reliable and long lasting than anything else we had. It was also simple and easy to work on, and parts were plentiful and cheap. That was the Ford Panther cars, Ford Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car, with the 4.6L 2 valve V8 and the 4R75W and 4R70W 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission. I have been driving these cars for over 30 years. I currently have one with over 400,000 miles, original engine and transmission, with no internal engine or transmission repairs. I also have two more with well under 100,000 miles, as well as a 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer with the 4.3L V6, also under 100,000 miles, and a 1968 Ford F-250 that I built myself from the frame up almost 35 years ago. So I am pretty much set for the rest of my life as far as reliable and repairable vehicles go. I find it hard to believe that people are still buying new vehicles that would be lucky to make it to 100,000 miles, and paying $50,000 to over $100,000 for them. I stick with American vehicles, because I have decades of experience working on them, and I know which ones are easy to get parts for.

At 3:06, the document from the manufacturer says "you shouldn't be concerned about replacing the battery before you've even bought a new car". Before you buy it is exactly the time you have to worry about how long it will last. It's too late to find that out after buying it.

That these new vehicles are considered to be better environmentaly is also a joke.

I drive a 2005 Mondeo, with 115,000 miles. Its solid, rust free, economical, auto wipers, great air-con, has no silly gadgets, and a huge boot. Costs very little in repairs and insurance. No worries.
