How anyone could not laugh throughout this amazing performance needs serious attention. In my humble opinion, one of the greatest comedy performers of my lifetime (sadly betrayed by the media), not to mention an excellent singer too. RIP Freddie - Sadly missed πͺ π
I saw Freddie at Baileys in Watford in the 1970s. He sang Starry, Starry Night whilst eating a banana. Hilarious. He was spitting it out over the audience on the front row. How I didn't wet myself, I will never know. Many years later and not too long before his death, he ended up living around the corner from me in a not very well known village in the midlands. I expect he wanted anonymity. He went to the local Tesco Express and said to the woman on the counter, " Give me 20 Embassy, 20 Silk Cut, 20 Rothmans, a bottle of that whisky there, a bottle of gin. And I'll have a bottle of vodka." After she had laid them on the counter, he said; " What are you trying to do? F**** kill me!". And he turned on his heel and walked out! This is perfectly true. He didn't live there for very long before he moved to Spain, so I heard.
I was privileged to see the genius that Freddie was in the late 70's in Glasgow,I have never ever forgot that night, what a man, in a class of his own, as far as being a comedian at the top of his game, icon.. RIP Freddie, one of a kind, never to be surpassed.
