I'm autistic+ADHD and burnout is a fixture in my life. Currently going through the worst burnout in some years - and as it happens, I discovered Death Stranding. It's incredibly therapeutic. Sometimes it feels like the right things get thrown your way at the right time.

The worst thing about depression is the time it steals from you. My go to game for when I can't function and am disassociated from all around me original final fantasy 7.

“Sometimes you play a game to feel good…
Sometimes you play a game to feel bad.”

Damn. ❤

For me, when I fall into a depressive state I tend to play cyberpunk, an extreme version of the world we live in, one where on person, you, can make a true difference, in a world with no happy endings, you can make at least a bittersweet ending

When my life reached it's lowest point... unemployed, depressed, gaining weight everyday from just staying inside the house and eating because I had no will to get out and do something else. And, after months of this, my then girlfriend breaking up with me because I was asking for her help, and I was getting angry when I was not receiving anything... the game that I played to help me get out of the destructive cycle was Devil may Cry 5, not my first playthrough, but the most important. I finally related to Nero's moment of being called "Dead Weight".  I put my anger towards battling my own demons, and I ended up winning.

I wasn't expecting to cry but I did. My go to game is breath of the wild. I always tear up at the beginning when Link walks out on to that clif. Just seeing the open world and that you can go anywhere anytime is beautiful.

This video genuinely moved me. You understood me more than I had previously understood myself. You inspire me good sir

Another video that tears into my soul and lays down to rest. Something that resonates with someone who tends to fall deeper into their depression. This was something to sit next to. Not to judge but to feel understood by another person. I got your back too man.

This video speaks to me. Dark souls and Alan wake are games I've replayed during darker periods. I lost my job a few months ago. The factory I worked at for 11 years closed.,

I've been unpacking that while searching for a new way forward and Alan wake was a game that I replayed. I'd forgotten how good it was.

I've had the privilege of hearing various people talk about their struggles (also with depression) and while I can't fight their demons for them, I can help in some small ways.
Like giving hugs or saying: "It's OK if everything seems hopeless to you. I don't need you to be hopeful, BUT I refuse to stop hoping for you." Because I refuse to believe that nothing good will ever happen to people I care about, even if their demons make it seem that way.

Thank you profoundly for adding another voice I got to hear from, it's incredibly brave to share something both powerful and deeply personal. :)

P.S. I'd like to send you an e-hug, if that's OK. (If not, that's OK. One of my best friends isn't into hugs, so I know not everyone loves them the way I do.)

Dont know why youtube sent me to your channel, but i will rest here.
Just a bit. Good Job friend.

When everything seems wrong and irreparable, I play Elite Dangerous. I don't do it to go bounty hunt, or mine, or kill Thargoids. I don't do it explicitly for the sake of exploration. I do it to get lost in the black. Because when you're a few thousand lightyears outside of the bubble and you're truly *alone*, you feel small. Surrounded by celestial bodies that don't care if you're there or not. There today, there tomorrow, there before you ever existed, and there long after you're gone. It's a sobering thought. And that feeling of being small, insignificant, makes your problems feel less colossal.

And when I feel like I want to experience something that makes me feel joy when all seems dark, I play Chrono Trigger. Not a randomizer, and not on camera. A long playthrough in a dark room. Just me, my SNES, Crono and the gang. Forgiving Magus. Saving the world and the future. To Far Away Times.

There are other games that I go to when I feel "some type of way." But mostly, when I retreat into my shell, when I feel like putting iron in my mouth and pulling the trigger, I get lost in the black. And the lockbox stays locked.

As I sit here at the bottom of a well that I have spent most of my life trying to climb out of, so I could get to somewhere else and become part of life, part of humanity, and do at least something good or positive for the world, when I sit here, having spent almost all my time trying to climb out and escape to such a place, all until very recently when I finally stopped trying because I can see I won't succeed, and the world at large look so bleak, it's future looking even bleaker... When I sit here and suddenly hear a somewhat distant, yet distinct voice of a young man who shares that view and those feelings that I've lived with for more than 60 years, I listen.

And what I hear in your voice and in your words is depth, understanding, wisdom... it gives me hope because I have proof once again that I was never the only one. And yes, the world will see incredible hardships and difficult times ahead, but humanity will survive. - The world, and therefore mankind, is evolving, and you, Peter, have an active part in continuing the process.

And for that, I thank you, young friend!

You played the piano from my comfort game without ever mentioning my comfort game in a YouTube video about comfort games 😭

I've never heard of you or seen your channel before. But 45 seconds in and I've liked and subscribed.
Looking forward to the deeper dive!

"I'm not always proud of who I am when I let my heart take over."
That's beauty in truth.

This was beautiful. A kind act to create and share with the world. Thank you!

"My life is shit and my brain make me feel horrible all the time, but it's all because I'm lazy. As soon as I actually start doing all the healthy things everything will be fine" - and then you some-fucking-how start doing all the healthy things and everything just becomes worse

People ridicule me when I say my favorite Souls game is the second one. But unique mechanics and all other objective arguments aside - it was the first thing that helped me struggle with depression. Everything else at the time felt like it's not made for me, I physically can't enjoy it, and DS2 felt like an understanding friend. How can I not love it?

This was the 1st video of yours I've seen and it resonates with me to my bones about depression and art. Stunningly worded and edited. Ive been feeling aimless and lost lately and was stone faced thru the whole video. But your last words put a genuine ear to ear smile on my face. Made me feel less alone and like people can understand how others think :)

Exactly! I don't play happy or cosy games to cheer me up, though they do have their place. I play depressing games teetering the line between hope remaining and not, and I feel seen by the world and the developers. Being seen is just as important as being cheered up.
