if you got obsessed with grinding the same two enemies every day in Dark Souls 3, i need you to promise me you will never touch a gacha game in your life

Bro almost reached buddhist enlightenment for a sec with that DS3 farm.

The instant I heard the words "I should get all of the achievements," the title of this video made so much sense

Playing Expedition 33 past the credits to "stay in this world to honor it and experience everything you could" and then slowly losing what made it special to you in the first place is shockingly apt for the narrative themes the game presents.

"there's something so human about taking something great, and ruining it slightly so you can have more of it"

There is something kinda poetic about such a sisyphician task requiring you to constantly go up and down a slope, over and over again.

"One must imagine Razbuten happy" got an embarrassingly loud laugh outta me

One of the most important lessons I've learned with single player games is that the only question that matters is: "Are you having fun?" If the answer is yes, then you are doing things right. It doesn't matter if your fun comes from finishing a game, giving yourself a handicap for a challenge, getting all the achievements, speedrunning it, hell, even using mods or assistance mode to make the game easier... if you're having fun, you're doing things right.

And sometimes, you need to stop when you notice that fun has become work.

14:17 "It's so easy to just say 'play in the way that's most fun, but sometimes fun takes intention" is probably the best quote of the video :)

Fun thing about the first Silver Knight on the staircase, if you turn the camera 180 degrees just as he's charging his dash attack, he'll fly straight forward instead (something about culling unloading inverse kinematics required to keep him attached to the stairs maybe?) making him at the end of his charge, fall down onto the stairs, and you can time it so he lands right in front of you with his back towards you, making for an easy backstab.
Don't ask how many hours I spent in order to find out this information.

Oh no the staircase

Honestly, when games get too grindy or annoying to play, I tend to start procrastinating playing them, and just noticing that and knowing that it's time to move on and do something else in the game (or decide its worth it and commit harder) works for me. The best thing to do is just to check in with yourself frequently and see if you're still having fun or not

I was just about to start a New Vegas run where I can't repair anything and I can only use ammo that breaks the guns 3x faster than normal when this got uploaded lol

I do actually think developers have a big responsibility in pushing players to play games in a way that's actually interesting and engaging.
I think achievements could serve a much better purpose by trying to get players to do interesting things they might not do usually. It can push players to do things that are absolutely NOT optimal but are still very fun ways to play a game.

19:30 That you mention Sisyphus not only for the difficulty of grinding, but in stairs that you endlessly climb, made me wonder if the achievement was thought to be through this place specifically.

In my 25 years of gaming, I’ve only ever 100 percented a game once, and that was Hades. The reason is simple: it just has a very grounded achievement system. You don’t need to grind endlessly, instead, the achievements unlock naturally as you keep playing and enjoying the game. When that final one popped up, it felt incredibly rewarding, not because I had forced myself through repetitive tasks, but because it was just a little reminder of: “Hey, you really love this game, don’t you?”

Ooooo no dudes going for the 100%

It's actually somewhat funny how playing Expedition 33 after the credits roll really closely ties in to the (what I think is) intended moral takeaway of the game.

3:22 Sekiro found dead in a ditch😭

Whenever I start an old game I wish for guides about how to play it to have the most fun.
It starts with things like "Is meele more fun or magic? Do I miss a lot of content, when I'm not playing a thieve?" That should be featured more prominent in guides than how to min max your play through in a single player game.
