Dr. Strangelove and his arm turning Nazi is a take on the scientists and engineers the USA took over from Nazi Germany with Operation Paperclip after WWII, mostly with ignoring their degree of Naziism. In particular the rocket scientists around Wernher von Braun.

"Peace is our Profession" is the actual, real-life motto of SAC (Strategic Air Command).

18:39 "Mandrake, come over here. The redcoats are coming. C'mon!"

Ironically considering the circumstance,, Mandrake is a redcoat

"Gentleman, you can't fight in here, this is the WAR room" 🤣

Colonel 'Bat' Guano was using the words 'PREversion' and 'PREvert', when he really meant PERversion and PERvert.

Peter Sellers was supposed to play FOUR roles originally.  In addition to President Merkin Muffley, Group Captain Lionel Mandrake and Dr. Strangelove, he was also going to portray Major Kong, the pilot of the B-52, but he couldn't get the accent right, and he broke his leg, so he couldn't move around as needed.  So Stanley Kubrick got Slim Pickens, a REAL Cowboy, to do the part.  Pickens played it straight, which added to the comic effect.

Flouride conspiracies started in the 40s when it was being added to water to prevent tooth decay.

4:45 this is the first on-screen appearance of James Earl Jones; he'd been doing a stage play with George C. Scott and Scott offered him a minor role so he could get his first film credit

Old habits die hard with Dr. Strangelove - "Mein Führer!"

He rode that bomb like a buckin’ bronco!

You see the humor, and you see the horror. Kubrick was a genius.

During the cold war a Soviet missile early warning site alerted that the US fired their nukes at Russia. The officer who was supposed to launch a retalitory attack decided not to because he didn't think the attack made sense for the Americans to do. So he figured it was a glitch in their system. He was right and prevented a nuclear war. He was also reprimanded for not following orders.

Laputa is the name of a floating city in the novel Gulliver’s Travels.

George C. Scott's performance in this classic is Epic.   One of my all time favorite movie characters.  Sincerely,  a 69-year-old usa rock and rolling movie buff 😊

Recall an Air Force pilot said, "we must replenish our precious bodily fluids" as he opened the door to the office refrigerator. I said, "Sir, I'm concerned when hear pilot talks that way." He replied, "Yes, it is disturbing, isn't it" with a smile on his face.

19:35 "The Bland corporation" 😂

The thing with B-52 flying around 24/7 ready to strike was quite real, called "Chrome Dome". It only stopped once they got reliable missiles and missile silo bunkers in the mid 1960s.

They use to have nylon stockings and chocolate in  survival kits during WWII

George C. Scott and Peter Sellers both had reputations for being volatile but having read books on psychology Kubrick managed to keep both actors occupied by giving Sellers the responsibility of creating four distinctively different characters (he was also supposed to play the B-52 pilot) and playing a running chess game with Scott in between setups as Scott was an avid chess player.

There is a terrifying amount of truth in this movie.
