It looks like the ultimate Commuter tool.   I have a Brompton with the Swytch Electric conversion kit (battery broken) and it transforms the use of the Brommie.  It means you can arrive at the office without sweating and still carry your bike to your desk.
Every cyclist needs a Brompton and I think every City Office worker needs a Brommie or an electric Brommie.

I had two electric Brompton (old model) with the motor at front and it was never a problem with them. Love my old brommies.

The older model with front motor and 6 gears is perfect, there is no need to do anything differently.

I have an e-motiq c line. It's a super commuter and makes an excellent shopping basket on wheels when used with the basket bag too. Longer trips are not out of the question either. I've clocked up a thousand km in just a few months.

I'm just not sure I'm picking up most of the things you're putting down here. The Brompton has a well known weight imbalance on the front wheel,m I have a C line and everyone knows the Brompton is better to ride when you have weight in the front basket.

The front motor made it more balanced and stable. Also I'm not sure why you claim that being front wheel drive made the bike feel weird when it literally makes the bike more stable. As for Brompton being an engineering company that makes bikes, please look at things like Java Neo, Acesoffix C5, Hexati Titanium bikes' hinges, those are the kinds of bikes I expect an "engineering company that happens to make bikes" to make after 4 decades, not a G line where the headtube has the thickness of glorified sheet metal that unravels at the seams, or titanium rear triangles that delaminate en masse.

The main advantage of the motor being in the rear wheel which you didn't touch on is that it will make the bike much more stable in cart mode, whereas the old front motor version makes the bike want to tip over a lot.

It's much more accurate to say that Brompton is a customer service company that happens to sell bikes, because on the engineering front, they've been lacklustre for decades while even people who copied them to start out have abandoned most of their design issues to make better bikes. Customer service is the only area where Brompton is actually superior to all competitors and the price reflects THAT, certainly not the engineering or the raw product.

Brompton is more luxury product than engineering firm.

So what are the options for moving the batteries from place to place? I also wonder if it's a given that airlines would accept a bike clearly set up for electric use, even if the battery is absent – what's the experience here? I live a good part of the time on Cozumel in Mexico, which is an island, and a C-Line or.a G-Line would be the perfect solution for my mobility needs. I'd even invest in a second battery to have one in both TO and Cozumel. So the question is, how do I get a battery to where I'll use the bike?

What happens if it runs out of power, does it just operate as a standard Brompton? Is it much heavier?

Brompton needs to make batteries into two modules, one with 159kwatts each, so that you can carry onto airplane. They should design the battery into modules, so that you can either use one or two and have each pack separated. That's what an engineering company should do.

Definitely the price, a $10K pricetag makes a bicycle special.

I just exchange my front electric wheel to a standard non-electric Brompton wheel for air travel. Sure I will not be using the Brompton as an electric bike at my destination but at least I have my (companion) awesome Brompton with me. I am assuming you could do the same with the rear wheel with a little more work (chain involved, etc.). Do enquirer? Hope this helps!

The thing i keep questioning: how badly does it ride without the electric assist and motor.

I want to get a g line but i have yet to decide if i want the electric or the normal one.

My current e bike is rather heavy and once the battery dies its practically 5x more effort to cycle than a normal bike... i want a bike that has an electric assist when i want it but it will still work once it runs out. Because if it cant work without the assist i may just bite the bullet and get the non electric one in the first place.

Because i would rather ride 60km (with hills in between) on a non e bike than ride 4km on my current e bike without battery... i mainly need my brompton for mixed commuting as the new workplace is better to reach halfway by bus, hence why electric to make the commute more comfy.. but i also want to take it far and on trips. Which means: i wont always have charge.

Another thing i keep wondering: is the g line even worth it or is the c line and other smaller wheel bromptons "comfy enough" because i keep hearing anything from "i can go cross country with a c line" to "this thing is a chore to commute with"

I would've gone with the g line exclusively for the claim that "it rides more like a normal bike" but i have no point of reference on what that is supposed to mean...so i really cannot decide because if the smaller wheel models are just fine "why get the extra weight"

What makes a Brompton so special, is it's lightness and small folded form portability. Making it electric ruins the concept with weight. I have a Brompton  and I use it from my campervan and when parking is going to be a problem etc. and in the manual form it is great. I would never want it electrified although I do have an electric bike that doesn't fold and it is perfect for errand type journeys, where you don't need to carry or store it when you arrive.

Interesting video, though your claim the 'front wheel is for steering, the rear for drive' is a personal opinion dressed up as a technical statement. Don't take my word for it, think about the millions of front wheel drive cars. Also, the front wheel does not drag the bike along if the rear wheel is being powered at the same time. It is a two wheel drive system. Rear wheel drive does have one significant benefit, though. The front wheel tends to lose traction when going up a steep hill.

I wish the bike would show the speed in bmph instead of mph. The UK and its colonies don't just use any miles. It's BRITISH miles 😊
