Got my coffee ready. Let's learn something today. Thanks for the video.

What a great video. That combo on the frozen 8 ball blew my mind.

Hello, I saw the previous post. Congrats for wining the 10 ball tournament!!!

Your precise explanation with the showing of the action is so great! Thank you for not only the time shooting this but the immense time that must have been spent editing this and all your videos!

This is the best demonstration of cue ball control I have ever seen.

One of the best videos I have seen. Very well explained. Very well executed. Graphics and comparisons were perfect. Thank you

Great video and breakdown of cue ball control. You cover all the key topics very well.  As an instructor and pretty solid player - my cue ball control is what most students come to me wanting to learn "to control the cue ball like I do".
1st Big Idea - pro's shoot 90%+ of their shots with the same speed and stroke but get the cue ball anywhere on the table. All they change is tip position.  This is so important because you don't have to estimate as much on all the variables. You also practice 1 stroke more than the rest so it becomes more natural and consistent.
At this natural speed (Medium Soft speed with full stroke) - we can get stop shots from all distances on the table.  When Object ball is 1 diamond away we go 1/4 tip below center. When it is 2 diamonds away we go 1/2 tip below. 3 diamonds away 3/4 below.  Every diamond is 1/4 tip below center but we need to have the same stroke speed and follow through.  All the way up to max bottom. You can be 7 diamonds away and cue 1 3/4 tip below center.  Most players I know start by doing stop shots with hard hit but once you start hitting with smooth stroke everything really comes together.
Once a student gets a good feel for this concept then I teach draw/follow based on this concept. Every diamond was 1/4 tip below center so it transfers to draw and follow also BUT we have to start at stop shot.  If you are 1 diamond away from the ball you start 1/4 tip below center but that gets stop shot, if you want 1 diamond draw you go another 1/4 lower or 1/2 tip below center at same speed and stroke as the stop shots. Another example, object ball is 1 diamond away and you want 3 diamonds of draw we just do the math starting with stop shot (1/4 below) and go lower for draw (3/4 lower) or (-1/4-3/4 = 4/4 or 1 tip below).    This works until you get to maximum low.  Say your 3 diamonds away from the ball so start (3/4 below center) and you want 2 diamonds draw (2/4 lower) or (-3/4-2/4 = 5/4 below center or 1 1/4 below).
This also works on follow if you are hitting same speed and stroke as the stop shots.  Say you are 1 diamond away from the ball and you want 5 diamonds of follow. We start with stop shot (1/4 tip below center) and add follow (5/4 higher on the ball) or (-1/4+5/4  = 4/4 or 1 tip above center).  Follow is typically done by players slow rolling the ball and letting the balls natural rotation take over, but this is hard to gauge by changing multiple variables (speed and tip position).  So if we eliminate variables and only change tip position it works amazing.
The more practice you do on this the more of a feel you get.  Just like most drills don't carry over to play because the balls aren't always lined up perfect - lets say you are 1/2 a diamond away from the ball and you want a stop shot. We can't do 1/4 tip below center or that will draw the ball slightly. If we know 1 diamond away = 1/4 tip then 1/2 diamond away = 1/8 tip below center for stop shot.
We can also do very slight changes to this. If you are 1 diamond away and to play a perfect safety you need the ball to roll forward 1 ball (replacement shot) - we start with stop shot (1/4 tip below center) and raise our tip a hair (about 1/16th of an inch) and stroke same speed and follow through as the stop shot.   Lets say you are any distance from the ball and for shape/safety you need the cue ball to rock backwards about 1 balls distance - we find our stop shot and cue 1/16th of an inch lower.
The above concept is a game changer - instead of changing multiple factors and trying to learn an infinite number of shots, we go to working on one stroke and only change one variable.
There are limits - if you are 5 diamonds away and you need 5 diamonds of draw you can't cue the ball that low. So how do we get draw from further away when our normal speed wont work?  If you double the speed (while keeping a smooth stroke) - you half the English needed.  So double the speed each diamond is 1/8th  - so in example -5/8-5/8=10/8 or 1 1/4 tip below center.
The same thing works when hitting softer - as long as you still have acceleration through the ball and object ball is close to the cue ball. So at half the speed we need to double the English. If 1 diamond away and you want to do a soft stop shot instead of 1/4 tip below center we need 1/2 tip below center.
This mathematical approach is all about changing the Tangent Line. If you know the stop shot from any distance you get Tangent Line.  If you do 1 diamond of draw you pull the Tangent line back 1 diamond. If you do 1 diamond of follow you push tangent line forward 1 diamond. This also translates over to the rails - where 1/4 tip of left/right changes natural line by 1 diamond.   Lets say you have a cut shot down the rail and you know with stop shot the cue ball will go into the rail and come back slightly (instead of straight across the table) - but we need to get the angle to come back 3 diamonds further up table.  First start with your stop shot and then add 3/4 of outside spin.   I have players come up after a match and ask me what I was counting during certain shots. I'll explain that on the shot i was about 4 diamonds away from the object ball so i needed -4 (increments) to get stop shot, then that gets me the tangent line (knowing the path to the rail and Angle In Angle Out), and then that didn't get me cue ball path I wanted for shape, needing to spin up table another 2 diamonds from the natural i need -2 more (so -4 -2 = -6 increments and each increment is 1/4 tip,   Depending on object ball location - I can get to this location with stop shot -4/4 below center or 1 tip below and 2/4 or 1/2 tip of that left (depending on shot) spin.

2nd Big Idea - when playing follow there is an exact way to predict the path of the ball. With a smooth stroke and lots of follow, as long as you don't hit too hard, the follow will take a path relative to the point on the back of the ball you are aiming at.
When I teach this I start with Caroms.  9 ball hanging in a pocket and from different angles i'll put cue ball and object ball.  Draw a line from Object ball to the 9 ball - where is this line coming out the back of the object ball?  This spot is where you aim the center of the cue ball. If you stroke smooth and the follow takes right away, the shot looks like the cue ball dives towards the 9 ball.  I will have them practice from a bunch of angles and distances to get a feel for it.
Then I tell them that I use this on most of my safety play. If i'm playing off the object ball and want to roll towards another ball - I use the  back of the ball as a reference point. After many different safety shots and how easy it is to do and predict I move on to another way to use it.
Every single shot on the table.  On every shot we can reverse engineer this concept.  So all the other shots (safeties and caroms) we looked at back of the ball and aimed there. On normal shots we aim the shot, and have to hit the ball in a specific place to make the object ball in a pocket. But if we continue our aim line through the ball to the back of the ball - all we have to do is draw a line from the center of the object ball and out this spot on the object ball to predict the path of the cue ball when using a smooth follow shot.
So this back of the ball with follow can be used for Caroms, Safeties, and predicting cue ball path on normal shots.  I am not exaggerating when I say I look at this on every shot that Stop Shot does not get me where I want to go. So position play, safeties or Caroms - first I look at stop shot, if that doesn't get me where I want to go then I look at Follow shot (back of the ball) and save draw shot as a last resort.

I have not seen anyone really cover these 2 concepts in a video.
If you have not heard of or tried either of these, play around with them and let me know what you think.
Thank you

Great video ! explained all technics in a single video easy way ..

Finally!  I have been looking for a video on spin transfer for a couple of weeks. Thank you!❤

I'll tell you one thing for sure you do know how to educate man and you being able to do all that one-handed is just amazingly impressive. Well done sir and thank you for the video ofc

I haven’t played in a year and this is the best quick recap that reminded me what I used to be focused on all the time. Some of these position shots were a mystery to me back when i played and it was great watching your break down of the options . Thank you for your great work

Okay, now I need an Excel file for all the info, thanks 🎉

This was an excellent video covering all the things I've been trying to learn. But your presentation and explanation (just enough but not too much!) allowed me to finally start grasping the principles. the graphics were outstanding! Thanks so much for this video I'll watch it over and over again.

This video is really helpful

Excellent!

Awesome video.  Embarrasses me that I've never set this up and tested spin

Love the video

Your explanations were on point& helped me understand errors I have been making. Thank you!!

I have watched your stuff from the beginning so there wasn't much new information. This video is incredible on how much information is shared in a short timeframe.Your delivery and editing gets better and better. Congrats on the recent :trophy-yellow-smiling:.
