The DIC G.I. Joe cartoon series began with a five-parter called "Operation: Dragonfire," where G.I. Joe and Cobra battled around the world for sources of a mysterious energy called Dragonfire to power a new weapon.

Now available in one movie length episode!

Operation Dragonfire is owned by Hasbro and DiC animation studios - obviously.

International hero just doesn’t have the right ring to it

This is the only part of the DIC era I consider canon to the Sunbow cartoon.

Wow the dropoff in quality from Sunbow is light day to night. At least my favorite character C.C. was transformed back into a 'humanoid'

The only two redeeming parts of this show was bringing the original voice of Cobra Commander and Sgt Slaughter

The first season (1990-1991) of the DiC series was mainly standalone episodes that focused on establishing new team members and plots. After the "Operation Dragonfire" miniseries in 1989, the DiC show lowered the animation budget and began a series of two part episodes, which often told a deeper story involving more dramatic life and death situations for the Joes. The theme song called "Got to get tough... Yo Joe!" and underscore for both seasons (1990-1992) were provided by Stephen James Taylor.

Gotta love Sgt Slaughter. He was absolutely perfect for GI Joe and made Slaughter more of a household name.

Cobra Commander is the best. He just genuinely loves being evil.

Hasbro got us hooked and excited with Dragonfire and pulled the rug from under us. Zarana was a ruthless character and she was turned into a bimbo.

At least Cobra Commander is back at running Cobra. I really hate Serpentor.

This feels like Great Value G.I. Joe.

I always wondered how cobra commander came back in a new suit. Thanks so much for posting this!

I watched this arc as a kid in the 80s. Blew my mind seeing an ongoing arc in an 80s kids TV

Looks like Cobra Commander got his revenge on Serpentor.

Spent my afternoon babysitting my nephew and we ended up watching Operation: Dragonfire on your channel xazyl. We had pizza n chocolate milk and now I’m now he taken home a scoop figure for show and tell tomorrow. Thanks for uploading the whole mini series. There might be hope for younger generation yet. Yojoe!

GI Joe may be an international organization, but I guarantee you that the US is picking up the tab.

I wish Sunbow would have done a season three and then handed it off to DIC. DIC shouldn’t have cheaped out on the animation and just picked up where things left off.

This “movie”; the actual movie with Cobra La, “Worlds without Ends” and “Arise Serpentor Arise” were my favorite Joe cartoons. The joes actually seemed like they might lose and Cobra was a real threat. That’s what made them great! Thanks for sharing this 😊
