All those areas you show as boring i would probably travel to to photograph 😂

I'm in agreement with a lot of others here. Hardly a boring area at all.

You calling these places “boring” actually gave me a chuckle.  Thanks.

I think the thumbnail title is rather misleading

Damn if these are boring locations, I don't know what to say. There are only crop fields around me.

Macro. Hidden things are always interesting.

I have just jumped back into photography again after a 10’year break as I hit burn out in 2015 after 10 years of weddings, portraits and commercial… I do the same walk twice a day with my dog so the house will survive ( he is a red setter) but I got a Fuji x100 vi and a Xt. as a jump start back in having always been a canon shooter.. as I wanted small form factor and each walk I take the camera…. No expectations just what catches my eye… I set up a website and blog… not caring if anyone sees it as it’s just a place I can just have to put them… some work some may not… if their is no shadow detail or highlights blown out I am no longer worried it’s becoming art… if your location doesn’t change the sky does .. I take constant shots of the ruins around me … been looking at those for over 30 years… they are a constant but the weather and sky isn’t … I also go out with light / colour and texture in the back of my mind as there will always be something.. a shadow or metal chain in a bramble.. if you have no expectation a lot can jump out.. great video….

Boring that scenary is insane! Take a look at lakeland Florida lol😂

Locations you are showing as boring are really indeed beautiful locations. In India we have extremely boring and crowded locations than what you say boring to your beautiful locations.

indeed, photography is the art of showing to everyone what photographer's imagination sees.

I'm trying to jump back in after a long hiatus from doing much photography at all. I went out yesterday (at my wife's suggestion, oddly) to see if anything caught my eye. It was overcast, kind of crappy lighting, but I found a little spot off the side of the highway that gave me a few opportunities to snap some photos with my old Canon SL2. I just hit order on an R6 mark ii, so I'm looking forward to my first full-frame camera in about a week. Next, new glass!

Thoroughly enjoyed the video.  For some time I have held the opinion that the ultimate photographer can create good/great photos anywhere, anytime.  I'm nowhere near that (and neither is my gear as I probably would have to have a good macro lens).

To kind of make my point I would look primarily at portrait photography.  Portrait photographers figure out how to make people we might think to be anything but beautiful or interesting - look much better and much more interesting.  They often require a crew, tons of lighting gear, and photo-editing to do it - but they do it.  Making something from nearly nothing.

The idea is not that you go to find the great thing to photograph but that you recognize that there are interesting things everywhere and we just need to recognize it and capture it.

I am happy not being the ultimate photographer but I think I would be even happier if I were.  I am probably not psychologically ready because I live in a small city and I don't like street photography and let's face it, the ultimate photographer may need to be happy shooting in all genres.

Photo hotspots I think are both interesting and boring.  As an example?  I've been to Yosemite National Park many times and thoroughly enjoy that area.  Go to Tunnel View and it always looks amazing.  I'd guess that the view from Tunnel View has been photographed at least tens of millions of times which makes the standard photo essentially boring due to the repetition.  There are tons of things at Yosemite which can yield un-boring photos but the most common are just over-done.

We went to Upper Antelope Canyon as part of a trip which was not focused on that slot canyon.  The guide was telling us how to compose the images and it was ruining my enjoyment of my first time walking through a slot canyon.  I wanted to find my own shots or to not take any images at all.  We should make photography our own endeavor.

FWIW.  Sorry about the rant but to me it seems your photographic philosophy is pretty much into territory that I consider to be spot-on that I couldn't resist.

Something that has really helped me exploring local locations has been expanding from just landscape to include wildlife photography.    Where there are trees, water, flowers, etc. you will find wildlife, birds and even insects.   It's great going out with a long lens attached, and going for a walk and seeing what you find.   You listen to the wilderness more,  and you start looking at the little details as well as the wider landscape.    And of course on your way you may notice a potential compositions (sometimes you even combine and getting shots of wildlife in the landscape).  In terms of gear for this - I typically carry my 100-400mm when scouting because it is a good enough range (you can always come back with a longer lens) and has close focusing for macro type shots. I have found pairing with a standard zoom (I recently picked up a 20-70mm F4 which compliments perfectly when scouting) works well because it is light and has  enough wide angle to get by (and you can always take a pano in a pinch). It also helps that wildlife changes... so you can keep going back when there is potential even when light or conditions are not optimal for landscape.

What helped me was shooting B/W and converting my old digicam to infrared only, got some really nice shots in otherwise boring locations

Love the rocks at c.5 min mark - some cynic might say "Brimham Rocks from Temu", but I think a good light can make or break a subject, and you can clearly make use of a good light.

I have yet to find any videos on how to take images in boring places from an American photographer in middle or western America. Why? Because that is where the real boring locations are.

Yeah, gotta agree with the comments here...your idea of boring places is not the same as most people! :)

Nice explanation neighbour, all the best from Doncaster.

I just discovered this channel which seems one of the few to actually talk about the creative process more (at least in this video) than camera gear.

Is that bluebells in Middleton park? Lovely place when they're in full swing
