Those Gen Z rooms looked like a daycare center. 😂

What I like about this video is that you don’t say we have to rip everything out or throw everything away. I like that you suggest solutions to combine the things you don’t like with new things.

i always laugh when i think of the name "farmhouse" for a style. i grew up in a rural area, actually grew up on a farm and never saw any of the elements in the style supposedly based on it.

@Lifetarian555 9 months ago

“Modern Farmhouse” was always an artificial construct. Actual farmhouses never came close to looking like that.

Several years ago I bought a house from the mid-80s that I fell in love with. The previous owner built it, raised his family in it and sold it because they wanted to retire to Florida..and they didn't upstyle anything. The house is light, bright, warm and inviting exactly the way it was built way back then.

Because it wasn't up to the latest trend, I got it for a good price and am not planning to change a thing...except to keep it well-maintained. If I get too old to stay in it, I'll sell it, buy a smaller home and use the remaining money for my care in my final years of life.

In the meantime, I'm living my best life not worrying about keeping up with the latest trends or thinking about the resale appeal, which will most likely change several times before I need to sell. 😄

Thanks for letting me know my refusal of a gray floor in my apartment by management was correct decision!! A Senior Citizen living in Manhattan NYC 🗽💯🤞🏿

As an interior designer I always try to guide my clients away from anything trendy and to focus on what they love and what inspires them. It begins as a struggle but the final result is always something they truly love and will never tire of. Thank you for another great video and always great advice!

When buying anything for my home I ask myself " Does this look trendy" and if it does I walk away.

I have enjoyed laughing at the "farmhouse/cottage-core" trend for years! I have shiplap ceilings in the kitchen, shaker doors, carefully stacked wood in the living room...but I live in the country, with forest at my back door. Context IS everything: I could decorate in urban/industrial and it would look as absurd as farmhouse in the city or suburbs. 😄

I would walk by the lamp behind you in a store and roll my eyes. Yet every video I stare at it.

I had a similar kitchen to the example for the cherry cabinet kitchen. Everything was brown when we bought it. The only things we changed out were the wall paint color. We painted in SW Seasalt and put in a sage green backsplash. It was relatively cheep and now the cabinets look much richer and the room doesn’t look brown and dark.

Cherry cabinets are so pretty. Just gotta update the tile and countertop and it has much potential

I love how I am watching this from my Victorian farmhouse (actual, as in on a farm) decorated with functional antiques. And my old shiplap and clapboard aren't going anywhere. 😆
