Tobe Zoo, located in Tobe Town, Iyo District, right next to Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture.
In 2006, a baby African elephant weighing nearly 100 kg was born.
However, she faced numerous challenges... Her mother displayed unusual behavior! She strangled her baby and lifted it up.
She then lifted it up to a height of 3 meters and slammed it down.
It was the zoo staff who saved her life! They took turns becoming the baby's mother.
This was the first time in Japan that a baby African elephant was hand-raised by zookeepers.
The lonely baby was named Hime, after the name of Ehime Prefecture's princess.
We'll introduce you to a touching incident that occurred one night.

Note: At the time, zookeepers were in the same space as the animals to care for them.
However, for their safety, they no longer share the same space.
Tobe Zoo practices semi-indirect rearing.

This episode's narrator is TBS announcer Ayumu Akaogi!

This is a remake of the episode originally aired on "Hiruobi" in July 2009.
