My first car was a 1962 Hillman Superminx. Drove it across the USA coast to coast and back again without the speedometer working. It was the Mighty Hillman!

Very nostalgic period of my childhood. I feel blessed to have seen early years of East African Safari .

The great Raymond Biggles Baxter on duty for commentary.
He also covered Triumph and BMC films.

Those were the days standard cars in a safari rally !!

these old day's will never come back But were the best .without radio calls or phone like now days

Never knew a Hillman ever won the East African Safari rally. welldone Rootes Group.

So TERRIBLY true pure British an era we'll never see again.

The music is very much memorable. And what can I say about the East African Safari? I always followed it and more so when I was a kid and always followed and enjoyed watching it.

3:55 to 3:58 - now THAT'S how you stop a car AND make an entrance at the same time. 🤣🤣🤣

My Dad had the very same model in 1966, with a vinyl roof!  There's posh!

the carlsson era

At 16:30 Australian rivals the EK Holden and XK Falcon go neck and neck.
Uncanny that they were the first and second best selling cars in Australia from about 1962. With the Holden at number one always until the eighties with too much Opel input into Holden.
Not too many would know about Australian cars participation in the Safari Rally this early.

Great video - thanks a lot !

Those were the days...in more ways than one.

Was that Jim Clark at 22.15? Great vid, funny to think it was the same year I was born: the cars look sooo old fashioned, lol. Thanks for sharing.

I think that I saw my Avon lady in one of ur pics

Nice video I have a singer gazelle (basically the same). Good to see they are well made but this video is made by rootes so maybe they are making it look better than it actually is?

Notice the lack of seat belts. Lol

Ive heard of Nascars, but not Madagascars.
