My face is tired

To be fair, basically everywhere has a writing problem nowadays.

yelling "GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF YOUR HIPS" every thirty seconds while watching this

Er....... just Ubisoft?

I think this is 90% of gaming companies today.

It hurt my heart seeing Edward getting Kassandra posed😔😔😔😔

"Take them, you'll never find better"
You already have three better sets of guns.

For the first half of the video I was literally thinking about how natural the Witcher 3 feels using the exact same bloody system.

I think one thing that's often overlooked with voice acting is how much of the performance was influenced by bad voice direction. Often times VA's have little to no context on the scenes they're performing, so it's entirely up to the voice director to properly fill them in on the context of the scenes and the intended emotions. In line with everything else just being "good enough" I feel like the voice director probably just looked to check all the boxes for lines they had to record each session so workflow objectives could be met on time, and didn't really care about the actual quality of the performances.

TLDW: Ubisoft has systematically lowered standards for years and justified lackluster writing/execution with the simple phrase "it's good enough." They also have seemingly put people in control of writing rooms who lack the "X-factor" for writing. They may be educated and have degrees in creative writing, but their work is demonstrably disliked by their target audience (paying customers and franchise-fans). Furthermore, their tech, while impressive, has been used as a crutch to avoid handcrafting scenes.

In order to fix this, they must raise standards even if it means hurting feelings. "Good enough" has killed any semblance of ambition within their studios and it shows. They must start adding a "NOT" in front of that phrase if they want to stand a chance at redemption when it comes to their narrative execution.

The difference that mocap makes is crazy

The problem with Naoe's english VA is she recorded the lines in the booth, alone. No ques, no nothing. I think she said it herself, she had no direction so she had to deliver this monotone - one fits all, style

The last Ubisoft game with consistently good cut scenes was AC Origins.

Lucy being saved from getting hanged would be met with a "now you owe me your life so you must work it off" response from the kind of guy Edward was in the story, NOT what we got at all, where he keeps begging and pestering her to join the crew. The writers clearly failed to get into the mindset of what a ruthless, merciless pirate like Edward would do at any point and take advantage of people, which he clearly does in the main story.

Edward is the kind of selfish guy who took command of the Jackdaw immediately after being released from captivity, despite getting helped from Adewale and made up the excuse of race on the spot. None of the new content reflect any of this, which is just bizarre. OG Edward doesn't take shit from anybody.

Saints Row is a perfect example of the writers not really caring or taking their medium seriously in exchange for a paycheck. The writing seeps of cheap sardonic 4th-wall breaking "jokes" because the writers themselves know the characters aren't worth taking seriously. In order to craft a compelling narrative, you have to actually believe your characters have a purpose beyond delivering critiques about things you don't like.

My favorite writer of all time, Ronald D. Moore, flunked out of college and just happened to get hired by Paramount for Star Trek the Next Generation because they were cycling through writers in an attempt to find some people that could write something good.  He went on to write for the rest of the show's run, wrote for DS9, then wrote and produced Battlestar Galactica.  You can't teach talent.

12:53 "More humanity" 🤌

Millennial slop writing has done so much damage to gaming story lines and cutscene quality.

ubisoft scrapping all the motion capture to save costs was the final straw.
the issue with this procedural crap is that if every character has the exact same mannerisms, no character is an individual. theyre just reskins with a different voice. i didnt like it in the witcher 3 either. but they had an excuse: manpower, and the year it was made. ubisoft has no excuse.
