"The Man with the Twisted Lip" — from The Adventures of Sherlock
Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Watson goes looking for a friend in an East End opium den and finds
Holmes there instead, in disguise and deep in a case. A respectable
man has vanished from an upstairs window above the Thames. His wife
saw him at it. In the room below sits a disfigured beggar who says he
knows nothing — and the only trace of the missing man is his coat,
pockets weighted with coins, pulled from the river.

One of Conan Doyle's strangest and most atmospheric Holmes stories.

First published in The Strand Magazine, December 1891.

🕯 THE RAINLIT LANTERN
Classic literature, read in full. Rain on the window, a lamp still
burning, and a story worth staying up for.
