I had an aunt who after discovering lumps in her breast prayed twice as hard. She waited until the cancer had broken through her skin before going to a doctor. It had already gotten to her brain and she died a few months later. One out of many stories I have.

It seems that you do not understand spiritual thinking.

So nice to hear this message...

Satan is really is the father of lies and confusion

I was a born again faith spirit speaking Christian all my life …read deeply all Christian books …Christian Science is nothing but walking by the Spirit of God within…they are definitely not a cult just because they don’t fit into our definition of religious Christianity does not mean they are a cult… the best way to understand it yonbe open and let God lead you to a deeper understanding of maturity in the Spirit and when you mature you will truly get what Christian Science is trying to say..to be honest I have not found such depth and fever for the Bible and Holy Spirit  in other other religious movement…Christian Science has been the best that has happened to me…goes without saying the countless testimonies I have experienced through it…and again I don’t go by what Mary Bakker Eddy of any preachers says …I got alone with God and it was purely by the power of the Spirit did I see truth in it…let God guide alone not religious judgements 😜

“As a man thinkers so is he”

I grew up Christian Science.  One day I prayed for God to tell me who he was.  Even if it is the opposite of what I believe, I wanted to know what was true.  Some supernatural things happened overtime that brought me to a place where I knew Christianity/Jesus/the Bible was the truth.  It was difficult on me as Christianity was the one faith that would make my family disrespect me.  Christians were regarded as not so smart.

There is this aspect to Christian Science where denial is given spiritual justification.  I found this difficult to contend with growing up.  Truth is important.

Well, Vanzant got it right when saying that there is “much, much, much more” to talk about. I write about this subject in my books: 21st Century Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: A modern version of Mary Baker Eddy’s Science and Health; Science and Spirituality: Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Eddy’s first edition of Science and Health; The Second Husband: A historical fiction; from science & religion to God: A briefer version of Eddy’s last edition of Science and Health. Available at Amazon Books.
My own research shows:
-I can neither judge a person by their religion nor a religion by a person.
-Doctors do not regularly give patients placebos.
-During the American Civil War, Mary met Phineas Quimby, a person like many others throughout time who, including the Hindu philosophy, refer to the material world as an illusion that can keep us from perceiving the ultimate truth.
-Mary’s second husband, Daniel Patterson, escaped from prison and walked north at night to return to Mary. Records show Patterson was a respected dentist who practiced scientifically. Mary discovered a law of God through what she first referred to as metaphysical science.
-After the war ended, about 1867, as stated in Colossians 3:1-4, Mary set her mind on things above with faith in Christ and began teaching the power of divine Mind over the human mind and its matter in classroom settings. A school. No church.
-In 1875, Mary wrote and published Science and Health for the public. In 1879 she started a church to commemorate the word and works of Christ. Eddy revised her Science and Health nonstop, and developed her ideas into the theology she branded, Christian Science. She also revised the Church Manual nonstop until her death in 1910.
-After Mary Baker Eddy died, Annie Bill, from London, challenged church authorities to revise the Church Manual. Church authorities addressed the challenge by producing, The Permanency of The Mother Church and its Manual, even if it teaches members that a material book and the human language are timeless and pure or God-given; even it teaches members personality worship; even if it teaches members not to follow Mrs. Eddy’s example of revision work.
-Revisions are a must when it comes to anything claiming the words science or Christ. Scientific and spiritual activity cannot be confined in a church or book or language. Without relevant, practical revisions; without the movement of mind and honest investigation, a power struggle or self-delusion begins and ends.
-As someone who has studied Christian Science a long time, I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of what human beings do in the name of religion or cult, neither of which can keep us from setting our “hearts on things above.” None but God, the one infinite spirit, is pure and true, timeless and permanent. And I believe God loves us all.

Thanks

The CS church has been dying for decades.  There is hardly anybody left.  Very nice people.  But, totally in denial that people are fleeing the religion.   They will not ask why, and they will not listen if you try to tell them why.

they have a online membership

I don't have any opinion about any "way" I have not tried and authentically participated in. I have experience of many "ways" and nothing has so profoundly improved my life and happiness like Christian Science. I came to it despite having no warmth towards the Christian church in general, and no Christian background. I had an illness the doctors simply said cannot be healed. I am no longer ill. That is major, but insights and improvements in more subtle ways have come sometimes daily - always weekly, and Ive experienced much healing I didnt even realise was needed. I feel surrounded by people suffering in ways I no longer suffer. I am so lucky I found CS before listening to those who devote their lives to spinning dramas.

Christian Science is not a cult. We worship the One God though we don't see Him/Her quite the same as many faiths  do. Deity does not have an human form and can't be recognized by the human senses, but by the effects on our lives. Christian Science really is more a way of life, an attempt to live as Christ Jesus taught and lived, as an example, up to healing and harmony, not  to experience the miraculous, but because we can make better choices when we live according to His word.
Mary Baker Eddy worked very hard for many years to remove her personality from her Church to avoid the appearance of cultishness. She did expect to have her writings keep their accuracy, so they did not be corrupted by later authors. She had no interest in being worshiped as a godlike human, although some church affiliates have endeavored to do so.
Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy elucidates the understanding of prayer and how to do it  and what it can achieve. The Key to the Scriptures part explains the Bible , starting with Genesis, focusing on the first chapter, recognizing that it is a complete account of Creation in 32 verses: God commanded and it was done  and done. In it , Man and Woman are equivalent in importance, made in His likeness; perfect and Good, without defects. What follows is a mythical narrative that tries to explain the imperfection of Humanity. The first chapter is thought to have been collected by Priests in the Exile , much later than the sources of the 2nd  chapter and subsequent chapters.
Christian Scientists don'''t use prayer as a tool to get God's attention, rather it's an effort to get closer to a better understanding of God which brings harmony to our lives.

Hey tell me about rakii...do you find it a religion? Fortune telling?

I was raised by two Christian Science parents, and am the only one in my family not a part of this insane belief system.  It has been a very difficult life to separate and grow beyond this evil thinking.  I have read many books and seen many videos by former Christian Scientists, and people who mock this sect, but your video is among the best I have seen.  You presented your facts well, explained things well, and made your case well.  Thank you for taking the time to do this.  I only hope and pray that people still immersed in this deceptive and evil sect are delivered from it sooner rather than later.

There is a lot more to Christian Science than simply healing. Theologically and Christologically, it is quite profound and developed. It meets none of the criteria of being a cult. Far from it. It's a shame that it's dwindling

Great stuff! There used to be a 'reading room' near my old workplace and I've always wondered about what that was.

Mr you need to read her biography.

Thank you so much for this. I love that the topic of Mary was met with kindness and sympathy as well, even though not agreed with. I could see Mary being injured and "healed" is questionable because diagnosis back in that time were not very accurate most times. So she was probably healing up form something more superficial and exaggerated,  and I don't doubt reading the Bible could help her feel better. But then she rejected the Christian "faith" modal and seemed to go in a very narcissistic direction. :/ It's believed that most narcissism stems from trauma.

I am trying to decipher the maze and oddity of Christian science as a Christian (Lutheran would be the closest to any denomination) I am worried for my dad who is very intrigued by C.S. I had other family that was into C.S. and they were always very mentally ill and taken advantage of by the church. Luckily I was barley ever involved with them.

Learned a lot here, thanks for sharing. It seems very similar to the word of faith movement for sure. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts & knowledge in this topic! Interesting back story of Mary Baker Eddy & it’s progression to Christian science. Intrigued now to see your previous videos of these cult groups. Yes, interested in a future video of Mormonism & LDS.👍🏼😅
