You’re the man! So interesting all there is to learn - very impressed with how fast you got this thing ripped apart and ready to improve!

"Drift spec" and "big block" is wild to hear together 😂

Boy between Cleetus and Adam LZ , you sure are getting the ultimate stress test on your engines 😂😂

I wonder if getting the highest praise from Steve might be a highlight of Freddies career or something.

This type of content is A-1 in my book. Great video! LZ shows the paces he puts that motor through and you disect it. Great colab.

Kudos to Adam and the crew for catching the problem before it hurt a lot of other parts. Very cool engine build. Crazy to think a 632 can handle that kind of flogging.

That engine is pure beauty. Well, before the issues, but as a whole, it’s stunning the craftsmanship you, and ALL of SME put into your products and work. I wish I had Tom Bailey money to have you guys do a Gen 3 Hemi for me.

Back when I was building trophy truck engines. We had to go to bushed lifters and bushed rocker arms. Because Manufactuers change materials they used to build their high end parts. With the abuse that off-road racing takes on engines, (more than drifting ever will) the needle bearings, axles and shaft can no longer take the punishment. Once we switched to bushings in both never had anymore ware or failures.  You need bushed lifter and rockers for the thing to survive

Steve
The little scratches in the rod and main bearing surfaces don’t look like an oiling issue, but a foreign material issue.
Is it possible that the material than wore off the lifter axle/bearing arrangement is what went through the bearings. That material although small amounts had to go somewhere.
Motor looks good, hard to believe that thing gets zinged to 9000 over and over

Well done Steve and company

Feel like Adams team might be a bit more careful with their block... Cough running without oil... Cough

In our Pro Drift car we were running our stuff up to around 9700 (R5P7) with Jesel KTL .875 Bdy / .760 Rlr units but had some roller failures, after switching to Bronze Roller Sleeves, (.840" & .875" ) we havent had a failure, totally different engine but same application. Im watching this engine closely as i love the idea and if it can hold valve train together longer term ill definately consider one for our next build.

I would consider dirt contamination in the oil, score marks on the piston skirts, crank journals and bearings. I would look at cleaning process and filtration, both oil and air filter.

Roller looked like it had  metallurgical issues.

That lifter issue would drive me nuts... There have been what less than ten lifters in all the engines you have out there that have gone bad. That's a really small fraction but it is still puzzling that there's not a clear reason because it's only one or two in an engine and tons of other lifters that are just fine.

dude those bearings were glazed and shot. that engine was whaling its last death scream

@17:29 you can see some, what looks like, serious scoring on the side of the top ring land.

You should offer drilled flywheel bolts so they can be safety wired to keep them from backing out.

To be honest, on a freshly built race engine a bad lifter is a win. It’s not uncommon to see race parts have defects. Great engineering and building

glad to hear a fellow mountaineer won the stool. had to play it back because i didnt believe i heard my state lol

Smair-Fresh air fresheners and candles capture the smell of an engine shop, a combination of race gas, way oil, dochem, honing fluid; with a hint of tire smoke and carb clean.  Make your house smell like home...  caution flammable
