Upstairs, Downstairs (1971–1975) cast then and now 2026: who tragically passed away, and who is still with us 55 years after the Bellamys first opened the door of 165 Eaton Place? Eighteen faces filled that house over five series and sixty-eight episodes, and eleven of them are gone.

Jean Marsh, who created the show with Eileen Atkins and played Rose Buck, died in April 2025. Pauline Collins, the cheeky parlourmaid Sarah, followed in November 2025, and her husband John Alderton, her on-screen chauffeur Thomas, is still here. We follow Gordon Jackson's Hudson and Angela Baddeley's Mrs Bridges, David Langton and Rachel Gurney as Richard and Lady Marjorie, Simon Williams, Nicola Pagett, Lesley-Anne Down, Meg Wynn Owen, Hannah Gordon, Christopher Beeny, Jacqueline Tong, Jenny Tomasin, Gareth Hunt and Karen Dotrice, from the servants' hall to the drawing room.

Some of these stories will shock you. One star was robbed of her life savings while living with dementia. One quit acting for a bakery until a single phone call brought him back. One was ten years older than anyone was told. And one had grown up calling Walt Disney Uncle Walt, years before she ever put on a housemaid's apron.

This is the full then and now story of the classic ITV drama, where are they now, the shocking changes, and the lives the cameras never showed.
