Catching up on some sewing projects, returning to this quilt top that I started on National Sew a Jelly Roll Day. I’m using a jelly roll called “Sorbet”. This whole project was a lesson in patience. I had switched types of thread I was using to try to use up items in my stash and my sewing machine was not happy about it…I felt like I spent more time rethreading and troubleshooting my Bernina than actually sewing, but some days are just like that! They make the days when sewing feels easy even better because you can appreciate it more!

I like that block. It is because you are working with bias edges that when you’re ironing it’s stretching. It’s important to PRESS your quilt blocks not iron them. Just a friendly tip. Happy Quilting! 🥰

I’ve been Quilting for over 34 years and I didn’t starch in the beginning, but I do now. It makes your fabric much more easy to handle and sew with. I starch my fabrics before I cut them and I never starch my fabrics after I cut them because they will shrink. I also do not starch my blocks when they’re pieced because that can shrink it. I highly recommend starching your fabrics. Walmart sells a Niagara starch and it’s inexpensive. Kimberly from the Fatquarter Shop uses it. I also use June Taylor’s starch savvy for quilters. Just be aware that using certain starches can stain your white/low volume fabrics that you use for backgrounds. I love staring now.

Every time I try and sew the Hidden Wells pattern. The seams always wind up in accurate

My machine HATES black thread and it NEVER looks good when I use it. No matter what I do. I can use any other color and its perfect. But as soon as I try to use black it's like in protest!! I'm making a Hidden Wells quilt too so I am watching your video as I am sewing my strips so I was interested in seeing how you added the sashing and I love that!

I just go to the grocery store and buy Sta-Flo starch...water the amount down and use that! Works great and is not expensive in fancy bottles with fancy names. Good enough for my mom...good enough for me! :face-blue-wide-eyes:

Melody, do you have a pdf of the pattern? I just saw this block this morning and I’ve searched for the pattern with no luck. Do you know if it is a free pattern or you have to purchase? All your blocks are turning out so pretty.
