Have you ever seen ARGYLE CROCHET made with the granny stitch?! In this complete step-by-step tutorial, I’ll show you how to use planned pooling to transform color-changing yarn into an incredible argyle blanket that looks WAY more complicated than it actually is!

For my blanket, I’m using my all-time favorite yarn: Caron Anniversary Cakes. But this technique isn’t limited to Anniversary Cakes! I’ll show you what to look for in a variegated or self-striping yarn, share examples of yarns that should work beautifully, and explain why some colorways are better suited for a traditional moss stitch argyle/planned pooling project instead.

Then we’ll crochet the blanket together from START TO FINISH.

IN THIS TUTORIAL:
• How granny stitch argyle crochet works
• The basics of planned pooling
• How to choose the right variegated yarn
• Caron Anniversary Cakes + alternative yarn options
• How to establish your argyle pattern
• How to adjust your stitch count
• How to control your tension
• How to troubleshoot the blanket
• A complete step-by-step granny stitch blanket tutorial

And here's the best part: once you understand what the yarn is doing, this pattern is surprisingly easy. The real challenge is learning to make tiny adjustments to your tension, but watching that argyle pattern appear row by row is incredibly satisfying.

If you make one, I’d also LOVE to know which yarn and colorway you used.
