This Elder Scrolls Lore Iceberg is INSANE (Part 1)

Blind Moth

The Elder Scrolls universe is vast, mysterious, and—let’s be honest—occasionally unhinged. For every well-documented event in Tamriel’s history, there’s an obscure legend, a half-forgotten myth, or a deranged fan theory lurking beneath the surface. And today, we’ll begin the slow descent into madness

Welcome to Episode One of The Elder Scrolls Iceberg – a journey through the lesser-known, the bizarre, and the downright disturbing secrets of Elder Scrolls lore. Today we’ll be scratching the surface, and starting with the first layer.

The idea that Levitation wasn’t in Oblivion or Skyrim because it was made illegal, yet you can still learn necromancy spells, is not lost on me

I could’ve sworn in lore that when Tiber Septim reshaped Cyrodil it wasn’t just stated that he had transformed Cyrodil as it was, but that he had also retroactively made it so that it had always been a temperate forest.

regarding the 7000 steps one. skyrim is scaled down from its canon size so ive always assumed that its a result of that

I strongly believe that M'aiq is actually a Daedric prince in disguise.

36:00 with any game in general, you usually have to assume the world is squished down in size... solitude, one of largest cities in skyrim, only has a like a hundred npcs in it.

Re: Gunpowder. Daggerfall has the following excerpt from the book "Jokes":
"Why was the Sentinel army so useless during the War of Betony?
The cannons were too heavy, so all three garbage scows sunk."
Which implies cannons were around long enough that the common man has heard of them.

Regarding the 7000 steps being closer to 700 steps ingame, for me it has always been because the representation of Tamriel we have in "modern" TES is just not a 1 to 1 scale (which always seemed obvious to me, I don't understand why some people seem to struggle with that idea). This number might just indicate that the games (or at least Skyrim) are 1:10

35:31 the whole skyrim map is a miniaturized version of its actual size. high-hrothgar is probably much larger in universe than in game which is why its not 7k steps

Every single time i hear about an eddition ESO made to the lore, it's something that they retconned so it could be in the game despite the game taking place before that thing

Hold on now, I think that Curio one is a bit far fetched. That would be like saying that whoever wrote down the Iliad or the Odyssey were plagiarists because they wrote down a pre-existing oral tradition. Oral traditions were inherently flexible and every performance was more than likely different from the last. Therefore, I don't think he's a plagiarist, he was probably just the first to write it down and as a result became responsible for the first published version of the story.

You mention the example of Neloth's apprentice summoning ash spawn, as something that includes heartstones, however, the reason his summons attacked him, is because he failed to use a heartstone

10:10 The wild thing is that there was already a lore reason to explain why Cyrodill would be a temperate forest during ESO. When Tiber Septim used his new divine power to change the environment, he altered it so that it had retroactively always been a temperate forest climate and so that change extended to the past (like during ESO's time). Is it some funky magic and time manipulation? Yes. Is it a perfectly weird explanation that lines up with a series that also has Dragon Breaks? Also yes. Much more fun than a "transcription error"

38. is probably a reference to how some people (not scholars, mind you) seem to think the 'Dark Ages', or Early Middle Ages post collapse of the Roman Empire, never happened given the dearth of written records from the time. This is not a very well supported belief

46:25, Oh don’t worry. Wasn’t a dilemma at all, much less difficult. Parthanax lives.

As a casual Elder Scroll's enjoyer, not beeing too big into lore, just love the atmosphere / sandbox / goofiness of the franchise, this video was a blast and makes me kind of curious about the world of that games!
I just came back to finish this brilliant video and I think, your way of wording and also your voice fit perfectly for this kind of videos!
Really hope you're gonna drop some more!

12:50 Pelagius would also go on to write heretical texts that espouse the view that humans can overcome sin without the grace of God. Clearly his insanity contributed to this

I once had to walk uphill from my parent's house to my own. The journey took me about 75 minutes and was just under 5 miles. The step counter on my phone recorded it as 6989 steps from door to door. If I hadn't cut through someone's lawn it would have been 7000.

The journey included the elevation but it was in the spring and at dusk. I'm not sure that the warmer temperature was real as the sudden lack of sun and the sweat from walking did make me extremely cold.

So while 7000 steps is indeed long, it is not impossible given a couple hours. As Dragonborn you could easily make this trip up and back several times in a single day.

The 7,000 steps may be an Easter Egg of a kind. When I was studying to be a historian, I was taught a rule of thumb for ancient sources. For example if a Bronze Age war source is saying they had 10,000 soldiers, divide it by ten. So 1,000 is probably closer to the truth. If the actual number of steps is 700, whoever wrote it may be applying this idea. But you're right, the reason they do this exaggeration is symbolic.
