The people saying that Arirang sounds like nothing BTS has ever done are so full of shit, btw. I can name literally a dozen songs off the top of my head that would fit seamlessly into the new album.

those 'people' lied.  Listen to their first album and make your own decisions

I never liked K-pop and still don't. I only like BTS.

12:59  yes J Hope has a song with J Cole - On the street

There newest album does sound like they’re older stuff because they debuted as a hip-hop group

People who say that it doesn’t sound like their other stuff don’t know the majority of their discography

If you like Tyler the creator, you’ll definitely like RMs solo work. His 2024 album “Right place, Wrong person” is SOOO Chromakopia coded, even though it was released before chromakopia

You should definitely check out the longer guide as well “A guide to bts members: Bangtan 7” by taylor mari

People taking these boys lightly at first and then gradually realising how insanely talented they are and then viewing them from an artistic lens rather than thinking of them as another manufactured kpop group gotta be my favourite genre

I feel like you should go through there discography in order to get a better understanding of them and how they have grown

Who told you this new album sounds like nothing they've ever had? I mean, yeah. They experimented and pushed boundaries. But really, it has something from every era of music they've done. The whole Dark & Wild album exists and these people are saying Arirang sounds nothing like that?

i recommend "BTS 2021 festa live", to get a quick broad glimpse into their discography,
Idk who told you their new album sounds like nothing they have made, I think that is a little false, i feel like this album reflects their whole discography, but just in a new light.

17:16 the "keyword" thing is for the video because earlier she mentioned that alot of people try to match them with already existing architypes that people already associate with boybands (especially when first getting to know the group). Types like "the bad boy", "the cute one", "the sensitive one" or "the justin timberlake or michael jackson of the group"  both of which ive heard reactors ask about before. but she feels like those dont really match the boys so she came up with keywords that she felt matched and explained them better for non fans to use to associate them with

Thank you for reacting to this , and continueing to learn more about the boys

7:26 he said ARE BTS not A BTS "are BTS" and that is Zane Lowe speaking, he is from New Zealand and very famous so you probably heard of him, great interviews.

1:26  To be fair, the "A guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7" is really good to know more about the members and their song styles as well as them individually, I recommend as well if you want to know where to start to listen them, I recommend the video from boracity magazine "an introduction to BTS discography", and to listen to an album after you listen to Arirang, I recommend "Dark and Wild" or "Love Yourself:Tear". And if you like Tyler The Creator I hugely recommend "right people wrong place" by RM

The song at 10:41 is domodachi  on the right place wrong person album by rm

Best I can to summarize here: BTS started as a HipHop group then added choreo and vocals of the Kpop industry at a time when that wasn't common. As a result they were shunned by both the hiphop world (who considered them sellouts and falsely assumed they wouldn't be part of the creative process... because, even to this day most don't) and the Kpop world (who considered them too free and non-conformists to their strict idol standards... something BTS has stood against since the beginning, insisting on showing their flaws and being real and authentically themselves).

Additionally, the Kpop industry instigated smear campaigns against them. And since the industry controls the media, they used their $ and clout to keep BT off of airwaves and promotional opportunities. So BTS said screw it... we're going to do what we want to do so they left the industry and made their own way, ultimately succeeding globally where KPOP industry had failed. So even though they got their start in KPOP they moved on.

The KPOP fandoms even got together and officially "kicked ARMY out" on Oct 14th, 2018. LOL So we jokingly and happily celebrate ARMY independence day each year now. Since BTS were able to achieve success on their own, the KPOP industry resents them even more now because they were essentially rendered useless. So the industry only claims them if it somehow helps them. Mostly they have been relegated to KPOP label by the western music industry who refuse to recognize them for their talent and artistry and don't want them competing against their own groups.

So anytime they are recognized, the western music industry slaps that label on them. Even Agust D and RM (members' albums that have nothing to do with KPOP at all) are mis-labeled as KPOP on streaming platforms. This is the first year, apple music, at least is calling Arirang album pop instead of kPOP... but it isn't even pop at all.

So whatever. Anyway... that's some of what you need to understand. And I'm not really sure if you are getting into them or not, which is perfectly fine. I would say check out more music and see... their diversity is fun... almost no two songs are the same. They can do uber pop but also uber dark and absolutely everything in between. They write what they know and say it with whatever genre they want which they feel supports the vibe they want to say it in. I'm a punk girl since youth and tbh, I dislike music without meaning. In their huge discography there are only 2 songs I skip. I find that hugely impressive.

On the journey... I always say start from the beginning because they are only always going to grow in talent, skill, maturity... so start and then see the growth. Their solo work was all so great because of the years they had developing their craft. But I will say... since it isn't on an album until the anthology in 2022... I like to recommend Born Singer. They did it on the beat of JCole's Born Sinner back in 2013 a couple of months after their debut. It gives a great insight into their mindset at the time and it remains true. Just an example and testament to how, even though they change their styles and genres and grow artistically, they haven't changed in who they are as human beings.

If you search up Born Singer Live Eng Subs, you will get a couple of options... any are great. The 2015 or 2017 have a couple of nice adlibs, but the one with them in blues and greys is when they did it again just before going into the military. In 2022 when JHope was headlining Lollapalooza he met JCole and within the year Cole gave them permission to use the song and we had the collab with JHope. They do have an interesting and fun lore/journey. Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy what you are doing and I hope you continue to include some BTS along the way. Peace.

3:27 She's saying BTS has always truly stood for Bulletproof Boy Scouts. RM has confirmed. Think the Beyond The Scene thing was more a company attempt to appeal to the West around 2017. No one took to it and we call them Bangtan (Bulletproof).

Since kpop is a not a genre, it’s not incorrect to refer to BTS as kpop because they are Korean and they sing pop music, but also integrate hip hop and other genres into their music both as a group and as solo artists. Really what they are is rockstars and members of the biggest band in the world. The kpop industry are still haters, which is why most Army’s feathers get ruffled when they’re called kpop. There are very few musicians in n the western world that can sell out stadiums over multiple nights and then have to add dates because they sold out in minutes. That’s why they can’t be compared to kpop. There are only a handful of kpop groups that could sell out an arena but no one is close to selling a stadium tour.
