Cheaters in Arc Raiders Are Not Happy Right Now

Embark just dropped a huge anti-cheat update for Arc Raiders ahead of the October 8th update, and from what I'm seeing in cheater Discords, the cheaters are NOT happy. Permanent bans with no second chances, hardware bans, linked-account bans that kill the cheap family-sharing accounts, and a solo-teaming crackdown that cut teamers by 85% in five days. I go through the whole post and give you my honest take on whether this actually fixes the cheater problem.

If cheaters made you quit Arc Raiders, are you coming back on October 8th? Let me know 👇

Cheaters made a LOT of people quit Arc Raiders. Is this update enough to bring you back on Oct 8th, or are you waiting to see the bans for yourself? 👇

In the terms of service agreement there should be a section that involves banning for posting content of you cheating or hacking, that would really help deter people from profiting off of it.

How my time with arc raiders went
When I first started there were no friendly lobbies or pvp lobbies, it was just full random players, it was more fun to me back then because the raid was unpredictable, it wasn’t just shoot or never shoot, you never knew, so I found myself sneaking past other raiders, then they made pvp/pve lobbies a thing, so I became a pvp player for a while, the cheaters eventually got so bad I went to the pve lobbies, then the cheaters went in there too sometimes and wiped the entire lobby, got tired of being forced into pve, got tired of being given a free kit as compensation for the bobcat 4 I just got with said free kit only to be killed by a cheater, I quit for various reasons, but the cheaters were one of the main issues, I didn’t know if I was just bad, or if there were that many cheaters, but I don’t like even accusing people of cheating, so I left. Maybe if they fix this and then come out with a solid content update I’ll come back.

I feel like more game's should do back bans and simply move cheater's to their own separate lobbies and let them sort it out. So long as the really noticeable things like flying or invincibility isn't going on it should take them some time to realize they were actually banned.

The best thing you can do is waste a cheater's time since banning only costs them money.

Played for 3 hours last night, every team had level 1 steam account and prefiring us w bobcats etc. nothing changed

I hope this is true… I loved this game so much but I couldn’t keep dealing with cheaters so I left, maybe I’ll come back

I could see this as a good use of AI as much as I hate it, train it to recognize common patterns among cheater behavior, and also maybe even checking for running software. If it notices something sketchy, it can ping a dedicated security person to spectate the account and judge for themself.

This is a great update, and it makes me more excited about the update, if it will mean most players' return experience won't be spoiled by the problems this game has been having with cheaters for a while now.

One point, though, using machine learning for catching cheaters/bots has been quite common in games for some time now. And yes, in this context it's always been referred to as machine learning. Even though machine learning is a type of AI, it's not generative AI. AI is an extremely broad term; for example, remember, we've been using AI to describe computer-controlled enemies since the beginning of gaming. It's become quite confusing now, though, now that people use "AI" and "generative AI" interchangeably.

i sure hope so

The thing with hardware ban is this: imagine this cheater does get hardware banned, be it on their CPU or GPU or whatever, now that person sells their hardware to someone else and that person also plays Arc Raiders and then it turns out that "uh oh" that hardware is banned and now basically an innocent player cant play.

AR had multiple top streamers marketing it all day every day, and now it’s been so long waiting for the devs to address cheating properly instead of the “3 strikes you’re out” system that made many players quit that the players & streamers we lost will never come back. On top of that, the CEO demanding a small dev team which makes it so we can only have a couple big updates every year. In one year, the ONLY reason this game isn’t still holding a large popularity is because of dev & leadership decisions. So sad.

the teaming they are talking about is not teaming in solos
its when you queue up in random squads but a guy in your squad is actually teaming with a random squad and telling them your location also not helping with the fight
ive been a victim to this many times

@TheLorazTube 5 days ago

Cheating would go away if they started sueing the companies producing the cheats.

9:20 I think it means OS. Like Steam OS, Windows, Linux.
Might be wrong.

@Dangerfox7 6 days ago

To answer your question. I believe they're referring to undetectable third party spoofing softwhere. Which is now potentially detectable. Thats how it reads to me anyway. 9:13

Hunt SHowdown published the number of accounts banned, included cheaters which were on top. Obviously they didn't solve all cheating, but it's very nice to see their transparency. As a player at least gives me the impression that they are trying hard

Im love extraction shooters and id love to play some pvp in arc raiders. But I try really hard to not play PVP and for the most part its been really really fun just staying in pve lobbies.

if they ban vpns it will probably reduce cheaters by a good amount even dedicated ips are easy to identify most of these cheaters use DMA to help with bans
