Durham Constabulary has today released bodycam footage in a bid to urge people not to drive under the influence.

It comes as roads policing officers once again take part in a national campaign to target drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol over the Christmas season.

From today, November 25, officers from the force’s Roads and Armed Policing Unit will carry out random vehicle stops and intelligence-led enforcement in a bid to remove drivers who are under the influence from the roads and keep people safe.

That road sign she crashed into could have been a person and she would not even had realised.

They're not crying because they're remorseful. They're crying because they got caught.

‘I haven’t crashed!’
‘Well you haven’t exactly parked, have you?’

As a retired Paramedic of 36 years I have seen my share of drunk drivers and their victims. I can never forget the mother of three who stepped out of her front door and was hit and dragged under a car for almost one hundred feet breaking almost every bone in her body with her back bent double to the rear. The drunk driver was found not far down the road switching number plates off a parked car. Two and a half years prison was a ridiculous sentence for causing her death. Almost twenty years later he was caught yet again drunk behind the wheel, luckily no victim that time. A slap on the wrist with a few months inside and yet another ban on his licence. To me there should be a zero limit and anyone causing death or serious injury should have a life time ban and that goes with anyone who reoffends just the once.

"Well you haven't exactly parked, have you?" greatest response ever

'Go get some real criminals instead of me who's not really done anything wrong'

That comment knocked me sick.

“You’ve locked me up like a criminal” that’s because you are!

"I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm not drunk or anything"

Well, Miss, only a sober person would say that seemingly unprompted. You're free to go.

@flyingpiggie979 3 years ago

“I wouldn’t say I’ve crashed”

“Well you haven’t exactly parked it have you?”

😂😂😂😂😂 Some of the responses from the police are just S tier.

As somebody who works for the nhs ambulance service, I despise drink/drug drivers with a passion, seeing the utter devastation they leave behind, holding somebody’s hand when they know they are going to die, seeing dead children in the car when the parents are still alive in the front, seeing 3 generations in one vehicle die due to a drug driver, I would never give these individuals there license back, should be an automatic prison sentence as well, zero tolerance 😡

I think this real life footage should be put on tv on adverts to give people a real life look at what happens and can happen with drink driving. This is a good eye opener, well done

It gives me no pleasure is saying this, but I’ve got zero sympathy towards drink drivers. They have no respect whatsoever for anyone. Thank you for uploading this video. We need to see more of this type of content.

Made 3 years sober this October. Only learned to drive when I'd quit drinking, at age 31. It's being able to identify with that inebriated mindset of these drivers, the excuses and the lack of care or responsibility that is humbling. It's good to have reminders of why you're not able to drink, this easily could have been me.

The officer who goes “Well you haven’t exactly parked it, have you?” 😂👍🏻

They should use this footage for a tv advert

One of my friends lost his 6 months old daughter because of a drunk driver. When stuff like that happens, people start to realise how’s the “real criminal”.

When I was at school, a girl in the year above me was killed by a drunk driver - I’ve never forgotten it. It’s always stuck with me. I’d probably only spoken to her once or twice but It hit home, not necessarily at the time but as I grew up It angered me a lot (when coming across other stories). She was 10 years old and saved 6 lives through organ donation, which is pretty remarkable. This clip should be shown on television.

People on phones is an insane problem that needs a bigger penalty

Any supermarket that replaced its Christmas ad with this footage and paid for it to be in the middle of I'm a Celebrity would have my business for life.
